How to get physical CD-ROMS to work in SheepShaver

Post by jrsx »

I have searched the web up and down it seems, and can't find a way to use retro software on a CD in sheepshaver. I am running Mac OS 9 in the emulator, and the host computer is a PowerPC G4 running 10.4.11 Tiger, if that helps. Thanks!

Hi,

What exactly is the problem? To use CD's with SheepShaver, you should insert the CD and let it settle so the disk shows on the OSX desktop first. Then start SheepShaver. If you do, does the CD show up on the OS 9 desktop?

Can you read the CD in OSX?

Best,

As often is the case, Cat_7 was here while I was composing my reply. ;-)

Indeed: Insert a CD-ROM in your G4 host machine and then launch SheepShaver. The CD should appear on the OS9 desktop in SheepShaver.

But why do you use SheepShaver in Mac OS X Tiger on a PPC machine? With Mac OS 9.2.2 installed next to Tiger, most classic software will run fine in the "Classic environment" within Mac OS X, often better and certainly more convenient than in SheepShaver.

Well, I have 'booted up' SheepShaver, and it asks me to initialize the disk. I think it thinks it's a hard drive. The reason I don't use Classic Support is it can't go full screen, and I like the full desktop experience of Mac OS 9.

What kind of CD is it? Does it have multiple partitions of different types on it? If so, that is the reason it can't be read. You would then need to make an image of the disk with virtual cd/dvd. See our SheepShaver guide for, well, a guide on that.

I can't find your guide anywhere. Could you link me to it?
