You need to choose the keyboard in both MacOSX (which is probably set correctly, otherwise you would have problems using correct keys with your keyboard in MacOSX) and MacOS 9.0.4. (Control Panels > Keyboard).

(Using a Mac, you need no keycodes file for SheepShaver.)

I suppose you are referring to using the option (alt) key for special characters. I do not know how a Swiss German keyboard is supposed to work, but when I try this (Swiss German keyboard set in both MacOSX and MacOS), this is what happens when I test the option key in the Keyboard application in MacOS:

y becomes ¥
z becomes ?
- becomes -
' becomes ¿
$ becomes ¶

What do you mean with "dead keys"?

OK, but you do not react to my test. Apparently something is wrong at your side, a problem that is not in SheepShaver as such, I suppose the characters I get with the German Swiss settings are the way they are supposed to be.

1. You run SheepShaver in MacOSX on a actual Mac?
2. You use the keyboard that came with your Mac?
3. You do not use a keycodes file for SheepShaver?
4. Did you try trashing keyboard preferences in MacOS?

I posted several messages and deleted them again because I was wrong.

Indeed, you need a keycodes file. The keycodes file can be found in a BasiliskII download or in a SheepShaver for Windows download, but I will post a single file and give the link here.
