Hello,

I’d like to perform a clean install on my older G4 Powermac (serial# XB04206XJNX):

• PowerMac G4
• PowerPC, G4 @400 MHz
• 832 MB RAM
• OS 9.2.2 & OS X.0

Its hard drive needs to be repaired; won't boot due to an “invalid BTree Header ,0,0” error. Using both Disk First Aid (OS 9) and a TechTool Pro 3 CD proved to be ineffective.

I created a bootable flash drive by copying the OS 9 system folder - which works well - then recently downloaded the following to my newer iMac (OS X Yosemite):

macos-922-uni.zip
• SheepShaver_UB_20140201.zip

I’ve run into the following problems following the directions on setting up SheepShaver
(https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sh ... os_x_setup):

Unable to rename the macos-922-uni.iso file on either G4 Powermac or iMac. I unlocked both the flash drive and the disk image file on my iMac to make the name change. Still no success.
• Consequently (I imagine), SheepShaver won’t open on my G4 Powermac.

On my iMac I’ve tried:

1. Setting up SheepShaver as per the directions (not including of course, changing the name of the macos-922-uni.iso file as I was unable to...).
2. Putting the (locked) disk image file in the SheepShaver folder.
3. Ceating a Shared folder.
4. Using Target Mode to access my G4 Powermac hard drive.
5. Tried to open SheepShaver unsuccessfully. In fact, it was as though nothing had happened.
6. I opened the Console Window and tried to open SheepShaver again. The following information was logged:

• 3/20/18 6:49:47.629 PM Dock[259]: no information back from LS about running process LSASN:{hi=0x0;lo=0x8a08a}

SheepShaver neither opens on my iMac, nor my G4 Powermac when using the locked flash drive to effect a clean install of OS 9.2.2.

Please help. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks!
Aaro

SheepShaver emulates a PowerPC Mac on OS X, Linux or Windows (or BeOS).

Since you've got an old G4 PPC, is there a reason you're not just installing Mac OS 9 on it? It should be able to dual boot OS 9 and OS X -- I'd recommend 10.4.11.

What OS are you running on your G4? Can it boot into OS 9?

SheepShaver will run System 7.5.2 through Mac OS 9.0.4. It will not run Mac OS 9.2.2. If you want to run System 7.5.2 through 8.1, you're better off running it in Basilisk II.

I understand that you want to set up SheepShaver on your newer Yosemite iMac.

1. As adespoton notes, SheepShaver will not run MacOS 9.2.2. It will run System 7.5.2 through MacOS 9.0.4.

2. Why did you try to rename the disk image file? Maybe you misunderstood the instruction to rename the ROM file?

Hello Ronald,

I’d like to perform a clean install of OS 9.2.2 on my Powermac G4 using a bootable flash drive, as the hard drive will not boot. I thought it might be possible using:
• macos-922-uni.zip
• SheepShaver_UB_20140201.zip

As this seems not to be an option, could you offer others?
Thanks! Again,
Aaro

We are now off topic. You cannot use SheepShaver for this.

You copied the System Folder to the flash drive and it works. Can't you copy all other files as well?

I suppose that the macos-922-uni.iso disk image is made of a install CD. If you can burn that image to CD, you can boot and install from the CD. Note that you need to burn the image to a CD to recreate the original CD, not burn the file onto a CD.

Brilliant!
I've created a bootable CD from the macos-922-uni.iso disk image.
Problem solved! She's up and running again. Nice to have her back.

Many Thanks! Ronald
