Does Sheepshaver Compatible with Macromedia Flash 5

Post by chip1 »

Dear all,

I am a newbie and I just installed the Sheepshaver for my OS Sierra. I downloaded the Flash 5. But I found that it couldn't be launched, the pop-up message was "the application was unable to start due to an error". Do you have any idea what it was and how to solve?

Thanks.

- Which MacOS version are you running in SheepShaver?
- Did you install MacOS yourself from a install CD image or do you use a pre-installed system?
- If you use a pre-installed system, where did you get it?
- How and where did you install MM Flash 5 inside SheepShaver?

Dear Ronald,

Thank you for your reply.

I am running the OS Sierra and have the latest Sheepshaver installed.
The OS 9.04 was downloaded from redundentrobot.com.
The Flash 5 was downloaded from macintoshrepository.
I downloaded and installed the Flash 5 into the “Application” floder and then installed in the same “Application” folder. But I was unable to launch it.

Please help.

The 9.0.4 on Redundant Robot is not a full OS install. It allows for minimal operation, but if you want to do anything more advanced, including installing Flash, you'll need to follow the setup guide to create a larger disk image and install a full OS 9 onto it from original install media or an install CD image.

Out of curiosity, I tried this on two different SheepShaver systems with plenty of disk space and memory. Got the same error both times. Probably it's hopeless, but someone would need to try it on real hardware to see if the problem is in the download or not.

EDIT: Same results with the trial download of 5.0a at MacUpdate.com.

The good: Qemu does run Flash 5 just fine on my side.
Mojave, MacOS 9.2, Cat_7´s build: 08-02-2019: Qemu 4.0pre with altivec acceleration and screamer audio support.

The bad: There may be a missing plug-in after installing with SheepShaver.
With MacOS 7.6, I got this:

The requester says: Flash could not be opened, as Winsock Lib was not found.
If this really is the only issue with Flash 5 and SheepShaver can be doubted. :(
