Installing OSX 10.3

Post by Kondor1 »

All i had to do is create a 10gb hd using pearpcfront (yes 10gb cause i want plenty of space), then boot with my 10.3 dvd iso that i made from my 10.3 G5 Restore DVD. go to the disk utility, partition/format it, quit and restart pear pc, and finish up. ....that simple

I burned a copy of the panther discs. I can see all the files on it with windows. I try to start Pear PC and it crashes when I select the bootable partition. Screenshot is attached.
Is there any way to fix this?

I am still having problems getitng this to work.

First, I do all the steps leading to step 4, but I was too late for a copy of Cat's partition'd drive so I got the 3 gig one from pearpc.net . Then i go to run, then cmd to get up the command promt. Then i load the locaton of the config file and i made it .ppc file extention that is accociated with pearpc. Then I hit enter, and I get this error message:

Image

Help anyone?????
Is it bad that it cant open the file?

Try to enter the full path of the disk and the CD ISO in the config file.

worked great

Post by feelie75 »

Everything worked great. The only trouble I had was the partition re-arranging. I think mine was already in the proper order, and so by switching 3 and 2, i messed things up. I fixed it simply by putting 3 (it was the 6gig partition, obviously the one I wanted) back to 2 again :).

I used Nero Express to make the iso images from my 4CD set of OSX10.3, though it only needed the first CD's iso image.

I removed a lot of the install stuff like foreign language translation so that my install was only 1.2 gigs. It still took 3 hours to install, even on my P4 3GHz hyper-threading laptop. oh well. well worth it.

Runs a tad slow, but definitely bearable. Only concern I have is that it heats my CPU up quite a bit.

Oh yeah!! Another strange thing: The time seems to be in hyperdrive! For every 1 real second, the time in OSX does about 4 seconds! strange. key-repeat speed is very very sensitive too for me, it's hard to type without getting a lot of repeated characters..

Anyhow, pretty darn nifty. Thanks!!

No, it creates a large file on your hard disk, and all disk operations take place within that file.

No , It just uses the "Image File" only..It won't touch your C Drive unless you networked with your Emulated Mac

13. Press "p" to view the partition table. The 3rd one actually needs to be moved up to 2 to make it bootable. So...

14. Press "r" to go into partition reordering mode.
This is the point where its says : The map is not writable
15. Enter the number of that partition (3).

16. Enter 2 to move it to the second position.

17. Hit w to write the partition table, check it using p again if you want to confirm it is all okay.
again this is a point where its says the same. Anyone got a suggestion on how to fix this?

well, that should be fine, unless you specified in the config file to put the hard disk image file in the secondary controller and the cd rom in the primary controller. (the primary is /dev/disk0 and the secondary is /dev/disk1)

Got it to work.

Made changes in the config file :

Code: Select all

prom_env_machargs="-s"
to

Code: Select all

prom_env_machargs="-v"
No idea why i did it, but tested it, and after rebooting it continued the installer. Once finished it worked perfectly.

Well, that parameter told it to only enter the shell e.g. to be darwin-like.
congratulations on solving the problem yourself.
