Wireless Internet Router workable?

Post by rant »

Iam currently installing macos (thanks for your great help so far). Iam running a Belkin Wireless DSL Router. My PC with macos is connected via networkcable to the router and the routher dial into the I-net.

How can I setup macos to surf? Any Ideas?

you and me both...I'm installing the 10.3.4 update...I"m connected to a netgear 54g wireless router...have yet to get it to work. am going to try bridging connections and let dhcp handle it and see if that works

good luck

I tried to get my router to work for hours last night...couldn't do it, and then messed up my install by cancelling my pearpc install because I was impatient and didn't want to let it finish. I reinstalled osx again but with old network settings installed so I'm hoping the update will solve my problem

try bridging connections and see if that helps? I've heard its worked for some people

I updated to 10.3.4 last night.

My host OS is Windows XP SP1 (with updates) --- NOT SP2 (I think SP2 might be the cause of the problems!)

I had no troubles networking. I've got a Linksys 4-port router, plus I am connected through a Belkin wireless router (set to run as an access point) through the Linksys router. No problems. Just followed the instructions, and was ready to go. I set the ICS up on my wireless connection with the "home networking connection" set to the device created by the OpenVPN driver.

That's all.

Autumnmist: did your network automatically configure itself on your mac using dhcp or did you have to enter manual values? if so which ones?

thanks :) good to hear that someone wireless got it working

I entered the manual values given in the guide.

Download a prebuilt binary from above or build you own using the patch
Edit the configuration file and make sure that pci_rtl8139_installed = 1 and pci_rtl8139_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:34" are present
Run PearPC, in OSX goto System Preferences and click on Networking
Click on the "Show" dropdown box and select "PCI Ethernet Slot pci10ex,8139, Port 4"
Change Configure IP4 to Manually, set IP address to 192.168.0.200, netmask to 255.255.255.0, router to 192.168.0.1 and enter a valid nameserver address (192.168.0.1 may work, I can't remember, I just entered my ISP's)
Click Apply Now and you should be surfing away!

Obviously I changed my nameserver address to my ISP's (nameserver = DNS).

My router LAN ip is 192.168.1.1 -- I'm using DHCP
I didn't need to change any of my local network configuration to get PearPC networking working.

interesting...thats what I did and I still ran into problems

eh maybe this update will help a bit. I hope :?

my router ip is: 192.168.1.1...dns is same as that...so you'd think it would work but it didn't. I guess we'll see...updates almost done (thankfully)

Wait... your DNS probably shouldn't be 192.168.1.1 unless you're running your own DNS servers.... I use optimum online for my internet connection so my DNS servers (there are 2 listed) both start with 167.x.x.x.....

I use sbc/yahoo dsl (piece of crap, don't use them) and ipconfig says my dns and dhcp are both 192.168.1.1...same ip as my router (netgear 54Mbps WGR614v2). ICS is on if that helps

Try changing your DNS servers to one of these sets:

Primary DNS Server 204.60.203.179
Secondary DNS Server 66.73.20.40

Primary DNS Server 204.60.0.2
Secondary DNS Server 204.60.0.3

Primary: 154.164.1.8
Alternate: 206.13.28.12

Primary: 65.106.1.196
Secondary: 65.106.7.196
