I just parted out my old laptop today

made enough money $$ to start shopping for a new one

combined with my current income i'm going for a used Powerbook

So in a week or so i'll be sitting back playing on my 900mhz or 1ghz Powerbook G3 Pismo

ah...OS X...here i come!

Good decision. But G3 PowerBooks normally max out at 500 MHz (maybe there are upgrade kits, though).

cheers

i changed my mind....after checking a lot of benchmarks....and price becoming a factor...i've settled on a x86 based unit

so i'll be using pearpc still...just much much faster then before

I'm planning on getting a Athlon 64 3400+ laptop...that should be plenty of fun

If you get a 64 bit, you will be able to use sheepshaver for beos (original version). PearPC doesn't utilize 64-bit technology, so the 64-bit processor will just be running it through the 32-bit emulation layer on the processor.AMD Athlon 64 Mobile or AMD Athlon 64 for DTR Notebooks I was planning on upgrading to a 64-bit, but you have to get 64-bit drivers for hardware.

ah yes...i understand the problems with 64 bit processors

but going from a 650mhz celeron to a 2.2GHz 64bit processor will be quite the speed jump :D

plus i've heard 64 bit optimized versions of gentoo linux are fast as hell

i bet it'll run pearpc faster then my current laptop runs windows

if you still want a mac laptop, look no further than the iBook G4.
i got one the other day, arrived yesterday.

i've been on it for almost 24 hours straight. yes. 24 hours. it's amazing.

12" version - £699
14" version - £760

let me know if you're interested.

i considered the iBooks..but the performace just wouldn't be on the same level as a Powerbook for me

Also i did some research and the Athlon 64 is more comparable to a high end G5

It'd be like a Powerbook G5 that is x86 based i guess
