no, it crashes because pearpc still doesn't support the toolbox(rom) functions that are required to run os9. (if it would run os9, than the devel team would make it possible to boot directly to os9).
if you want os9 you should try sheepshaver.

You can runs Basliks 2 (B2) , the 68K emulator and run OS 7.5.3/0S 8.1..This way , actually its emulating the Classic mode , so you could run all those old 68k program in your fake PowerMac G3/G4....Well , best of all if you use the Native CD-ROM Build ,you can read Old Mac CDs directly into your emulated quarda and install all those old-time programs

a rom isn't required to boot peaprc.
sheepshaver doesn't emulate a g4.

what did you dump a g4 rom for?

No, it's not but that isn't what the post was saying.

oops, sorry.

i don't know of a way to run os 9 directly by using pearpc, except for running linux/ppc in pearpc, and in it sheepshaver. but you can use sheepshaver if you have linux on your real x86 (or run it in colinux in windows, it'll be better than sheepshaver in pearpc)

PPC_Digger, it's always surprising how misinformed you can be. SheepShaver does emulate a G4 more than 6 months ago now...

Advice to PPC_Digger : SheepSaver emulates G4 + Sound and other feautres....Well , Read the Sheepsaver infomation

But anyway , people make mistakes..i understand...One thing for sure , SheepSaver runs like crap on OSX (PearPC)..The graphics are ...messed up....So , beware using Sheepsaver on PearPC..Make sure you get the current one...:D

No, there are problems with Sheepshaver being tied into X, so it isn't possible to compile a Windows version.

Unless you can find a distribution of Linux that you can run from within Windows. Some do exist, but I'm not sure which is the best to use.

I imagine it would work with a Knoppix bootable CD. I have VMware so I just use a RedHat 9 VM for Linux when I need it. Sheepshaver might run a bit slow in that, though.

Sorry again. I don't really follow sheepshaver (i like pearpc more, no offense sheepshaver guys).
I also thought that pear was the first ppc-on-x86 emulator that did G4 (sorry the third time)

BTW i thought sheepshaver emulate a 603e or something like that (can it?)

No Sheepshaver emulates a G4 and can run os 8.1-9.0.4(or something like that) If you want to run sheepshaver in windows look for the instruction for SheepShaver on coLinux its in the sheepshaver forum

You can try it on Virtual PC..Its possible....But it will be even slower..So its the best to run on a real PC with Linux installed or you can do what Trombone Bob has said

You can run SheepShaver in windows using the program coLinux. (Once again) If you go to the SheepShaver forum there is a post called SheepShaver for Windows via coLinux in the post you will find step by step instructions on how to get sheepshaver running under colinux for windows. If you have any problems post there and it could help. Also you could load a PPC of linux on PearPC and run Mac-on-linux. Both options are available. I have goten Sheepshaver to ./configure in cygwin but I cannot get it to make so if there is any realy good linux guru out there you could try to port sheepshaver over to windows that way.
