OSX Installer hangs
hello. Ive been very interested in possibly buying a mac computer, so I thought Id give pear pc a try.
I made images off of the install disks off of my sisters recently purchased iBook, so Im pretty sure the version is 10.3.8
What happens:
the isntaller boots.. I see preparing installation for a while, then I get a blank desktop, even after setting up the disk in the disk program (whatever its called) Im pretty sure this is where you are supposed to select a language, but nothing happens here. Any help?

specs, etc
build: Ive tried both the most recent JITC build and the CVS build of the day (which seems much faster)
PC Specs: XP PRO sp2, athlonXP 2600+ (~2Ghz), 1 gb ram, sata 80gb maxtor hdd, asus MB(i forget the model).. I doubt youll need more than that.
The primary image is about 6 Gb in size.

so...
prom_env_machargs = "-v"
and
redraw_interval_msec = 10
?
Ill give it a try. thanks for the advice. Ill let you know what happens.
anyone else have a problem with mouse support while connecting to the computer running pearpc over a remote desktop connection? the mouse goes all wonky on me until i use it locally (though I suppose it is possible the redraw fix above may correc tthis)

You can best try to install with default values, specially memory:
so comment out all your memory settings like this:
#memory_size=0x20000000
and then, do NOT use "-v" with prom_env_machargs = ""
as it only gives your a verbose startup which can interrupt the install.
set this:
prom_bootmethod = "auto" to "select" so pearpc will show you an overview of partitions to boot from.
Last: you did restart pearpc after setting up the hd-image with disk utility?
and did deselect all software to install execpt the basic packages?
Good Luck!

I dont get that far. Can't even select the language. (which I believe is the first step)and did deselect all software to install execpt the basic packages?
Im just using a royale theme. nothing special.do you use any special theme or a desktop theme software like some stardock software
I do run Konfabulator (think dashboard) but I dont think that would interfere with this

The iBook you took the image from was G4? Change the CPU code to G4 to see where it takes you.
You could also try with different builds.
Prasys builds:

Richard Goodwin builds:

Here's a manual method for installing OS X with restore discs, if this is your case:
