Do you get some error message instead?

Can you post your prefs file so we can check for issues?

I didn't get an error message, just a windows saying "You can see the output of the PearPC program below. The output is cleared every two minutes." Then there are two boxes saying "Clear Text," and "Close Windows."

Please Help.

Were you able to get as far as installing the operating system?

If not, what media are you trying to boot (install) from? It doesn't seem to be specified in your config file.

Hi,

It seems you want to start from the 6Gb hard disk image. did you install OSX for PowerPC processors on that image?

And please set pci_rtl8139_type = "" , set the bootargs to "-v" and point the pci_ide0_master to a bootable cd or cd image. Set the pci_ide1 to the 6Gb hard disk image.

And try again.

Best,

I think you've got a problem with the hard disk image and ISO part of the config file.

You should forget about the PearPC Control Panel or GUI and maybe try this handy website to generate a config:

http://guillaumejamet.eu/index?rub=rubr ... pc_cfg.php

You can fill in your information and it will generate one that should work.

Or (and I'm not an expert here), you can delete this part:

"pci_ide1_master_installed = 1
pci_ide1_master_image = "C:\Users\Ian O'Rourke\Downloads\Panther\Mac OS X Install Disc 1.iso"
pci_ide1_master_type = "cdrom"
pci_ide1_slave_installed = 1
pci_ide1_slave_image = "C:\Users\Ian O'Rourke\Downloads\PPCCP\PPC\macosx_6gb.img"
pci_ide1_slave_type = "hd"
pci_ide0_slave_installed = 1
pci_ide0_slave_image = "C:\Users\Ian O'Rourke\Downloads\Panther\Mac OS X Install Disc 1.iso"
pci_ide0_slave_type = "cdrom""

And replace it with:

pci_ide0_slave_installed = 1
pci_ide0_slave_type = "cdrom"
pci_ide0_slave_image = "C:\Users\Ian O'Rourke\Downloads\Panther\Mac OS X Install Disc 1.iso"

You've already got a reference to the 6gb hard disk image near the beginning of the config file. That should be changed pci_ide1. I think. Currently, you have multiple references to both the disk image and the cd image. That's probably causing a problem. But, again, you might be well-served by using the config file generator. That would avoid the problem of having too many references to the same images.

Just run "ppc.exe" from a command prompt.

Like this:

C:\your\install\dir> ppc CONFIGFILENAME

I wasn't sure if I should start another thread for this, but the problem I'm having is exactly the same as what Cessnao3 described in his first post. I've tried the suggestions you've made for him, but haven't had any success. I was wondering if I could get any suggestions on what to do. Here is my config file. When I tried to start the installation through DOS, it had an I/O error and said that the config file I typed is was not a config file (?).

Anyways, this is the most recent config I've tried. I used the website suggested to have one generated for me, but that one didn't work either:

#Darwin2
# Created with PearPC Control Panel
#C:\Users\crash123\Downloads\PearPC Stuff\redscorp-release-20080329.1\release\ppc-amd-sse3.exe
#DarwinIcon
#No SDL
pci_ide0_master_installed = 1
pci_ide0_master_image = "pearpc-6gib.img"
pci_ide0_master_type = "hd"
memory_size = 0x8000000
ppc_start_resolution = "800x600x15@60"
redraw_interval_msec = 40
prom_driver_graphic = "video.x"
ppc_start_full_screen = 0
key_toggle_mouse_grab = "F12"
key_toggle_full_screen = "Alt+Return"
key_change_cd_0 = "F10"
cpu_pvr = 0x00088302
pci_rtl8139_installed = 0
pci_rtl8139_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:35"
pci_rtl8139_type = ""
pci_rtl8139_interface = "-v"
pci_3c90x_installed = 0
pci_3c90x_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:35"
pci_3c90x_type = ""
pci_3c90x_interface = ""
pci_usb_installed = 1
prom_bootmethod = "select"
prom_env_bootargs = ""
prom_env_machargs = ""
nvram_file = "nvram"

Thanks for any help. I really want to get some OS-X running on my PC.

Sorry, the config file I posted was NOT the right one. I'd created several messing around.

I just created another one, and I'm able to run it in cmd now. But I just get this error message:

[IO/IDE] <Error> C:\Users\......\10.4.6.install.dvd.iso: could not open file (No error).

Here's the config that's giving me that. This should be the right config this time.

Actually, I think the last error was because of the boot cd I was using. I just tried using a disk for Panther and it's working! But now it doesn't see a bootable partition. I got my 6gb drive file from an older site, so now i'm trying a newer one. We'll see if that does it.....

We've got this one here:

It should work. Let us know how it turns out...

Thanks for the hard drive. When I run everything through the command line, it seems to recognize this hard drive. Prom Loader opens up and it shows a bootable partition, when I select this partition, I get an error message similar to the one I had awhile ago:

[IO/PROM] <Error> can't open boot file

Maybe the Panther disk is bad too? I'm just having no luck here.

Before we try anything, first you should set aside the redscorp release, and try the basic 0.4.0 release of PearPC:

http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

Try that (remember to change your config file) and let me know if it works.

Still no success with the 0.4.0 version. Got to the PROM loader, picked my partition, then got the "[IO/PROM] <Error> can't open boot file" error again. Maybe it really is the disc.

It must be the disk. If you do a search on the forum, you will see that the error has come up sometimes in the past because of a disk image that didn't work. I would recommend trying another CD image, if possible. You can perhaps download one via a torrent or something.

But just to be clear: you are selecting to boot the CDROM, rather than the hard disk image, right?

It looks something like this?

Config file generator is temporarily offline

Post by ElGuillermo »

Hi !

Sorry to undig such an old topic :)

I developped (years ago) the "PearPC config file generator".
The tool is now offline, but will be back in some days (I'll give the new url here).

Please feel free to contact me if you want some help on PearPC.

Hi again !

I've put back a (very) rough page with the config generator...
It is functional but quite ugly :) I'll add some extra eyestuff later...
