Well, for the people who's having problem in making bootable disk images...
Make up your normal image and boot Mac OS X setup.
Then go into Drive Setup, select the harddisk, and click Erase.
Voilá!
A bootable disk :)

I assume that darwin from apple is installable and you actually get finder and stuff rather than a lot of weird linux command line stuff?

please, please, not the trials of XF86Config again

No, Darwin is Mac OS X minus the Mac GUI - the only GUI that comes with Darwin is XFree86.
