Anyone use Bochs?

Anything not about Mac emulation.

Anyone use Bochs?

Post by ClockWise »

Does anyone here use Bochs?

I would like to write a short setup guide for some task with Bochs (installing some specific operating system in the emulated machine) in the same style as what we already have on the site (VERY SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS).

But Bochs seems very complicated. Anyone here had any luck?

I tried to set up Bochs to run Rhapsody DR2 using a tutorial I found. Bochs' main problem at the time is slow speed due to its complete machine emulation. It has gone through some speed boosts since then though.

It's not so bad, really. I toyed with it a while ago when DOSBox wasn't quite up to spec. Are you experiencing a specific problem?

No issues right now.

But if I post a Bochs setup guide in the wiki, I hope you'll be willing to take a look at it for errors and whatnot.

I used Bochs a few years ago to install a beta version of Windows 95 or 98 (could have been Nashville or Windows 96 or something) and it worked. But I always had difficulty setting Bochs up. I managed it that time, but it was a few years ago. It should all still be there.
