Productivity Software

Post by Silent Flamer »

I usually get games for my emulators , and I'm wondering if anyone has good suggestions for productivity software? Usually after I get alot of nice games , I'll start hunting for productivity software . I like keeping the balance , you see .

Right now , I have AppleWorks 5 for Basilisk II (7.5.5) , AppleWorks 6 for SheepShaver (9.0.4) , ClarisWorks 1 for Mini vMac (6.0.Eight) and AppleWorks (Apple ][ Version) 3.0 for AppleWin (ProDOS 2.0.3) . Anyone have any other recommendations?

Look in Macintosh Garden: I found stuff like Microsoft Works 4.0 in there, and plenty of other cool crap.

Well, I would say that ClockWise is pointing you in the direction of completely legal, distributable software, which I fully support as a medium. In fact, I would go so far to say that I recommend going with those options, since they are tested with the emulators and are proven to work, and your mileage may vary with other applications. If you're looking for some abandonware, however, I believe that I may be able to help in that area.

On my site and in my Mediafire archive, I have some productivity software readily available, which has been confirmed to work in Mini vMac, and quite possibly Basilisk II. You may want to check that out (link to Mediafire archive, etc. at the end of post).

If you want to use SheepShaver, I personally recommend getting Microsoft Office 98. Yes, I know, Microsoft and Mac don't mix (literally), but this software is actually quite similar to the Windows version, which should come as no surprise. If you liked Office 97, then you should have no problem with Office 98.

My two favorite programs to use? Microsoft Word 5.1a for Mac (truly, the best Word ever) and WordPerfect Works for Mac, with ClarisWorks coming in close second. They are all solid and still usable. Please give them a look.

Try to get Nisus Writer 4.x/5.x if you need Chinese word processing...
Premiere 1.x/2.x/3.x is worth a try in Basilisk II but do not try PPC versions due to Quicktime's instability in Sheepshaver,..

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? You have multiple versions of Windows in your archive! There's a Windows 3.1 Hard Disk in there!

I might actually need that; all the emulators (QEMU with Dos 6.22 and DosBox - I did get it to work with VirtualBox but it was arcane and obtuse) I'm using hate me and won't let me run Windows 3.11, don't know if it's a bad disk...
