Short notice, but Mossy is doing a livestream of his favorite 1980s Mac games to promote his book on the same topic.
The stream will be here:

Thanks for the heads up! I wonder why he didn't post anything on MacScene. I'll go rectify that :D

My browser security is preventing me making an account, but it's been a great nostalgia trip so far!

Re: Classic Mac Games Livestream
Well, that was fun!
Suggestion for the next event: WAN party :D The Javascript-based pce-macplus emulator will run a bunch of titles... we could do Bolo, NetTrek, NetRisk, Strategic Conquest, Spectre....
I think I'm missing a few that should be obvious.

Thanks for helping spread the word, guys. I was planning to post about it on MacScene and a few other places but forgot amidst all the preparations of the actual games and streaming setup (not to mention the several hours of Mario Odyssey I played for the weekend). I'll definitely announce the next one with a longer lead-up period and on more websites.
I'd love to do a WAN party one. I'm terrible at most networked multiplayer games that aren't Spectre or Super Maze Wars, but it'd be a lot of fun. I'll also do a 90s one at some point, and maybe a shareware one or some specific genre or series.
Looks like I'll be doing a stream with Charlie Jackson one day, too. He said he's up for it.

Re: Classic Mac Games Livestream
How many unique visitors did you eventually get to the stream, Mossy?
Re: Classic Mac Games Livestream
108 uniques, apparently, which is better than I expected. Total views was 168, so some probably left for a bit and came back. 18 people participated in the chat. Average viewer count across the duration was also 18, with a peak of 26 about half an hour in (and again about one hour in). And there were 711 chat messages.

Re: Classic Mac Games Livestream
I count for at least 3 of the non-uniques, and bumped the number up to 18 at the start and up to 26 the other two times Unfortunately, things lagged a bit, so people were chatting about stuff I hadn't seen yet :\
My kids also sat and watched for a while; they're fascinated by the origins of Mac games.
Which made me think: I'll have to request our local library get a copy or two of your book

Re: Classic Mac Games Livestream
Oh, yes. Libraries. Definitely wanting to get the book into as many libraries as possible. One of the things still on my post-release to-do list is to contact a few libraries I use about getting copies and to reach out to some academic game historians and archivists around the world about possibly getting copies at their institutions.adespoton wrote:Which made me think: I'll have to request our local library get a copy or two of your book
