Yes, I can see them in SimpleText, or MPW, there are showing in the opened text file,
I can copy/paste them, but cannot type them back?

Found some TrueTypes in `LaserWriter-Pro-300-360.sit', having uniques such as
Zaps DingBats

I do not understand. You can type the characters in SimpleText, you can copy and paste them, but you cannot type them back. What do you mean with "type them back".

Option key combo, does not produce special chars on the screen, does not type anything, seeing them
in the text, however, I can copy paste them.

I cannot produce special chars using `Key Caps' accessory either.
Am I clearer now?

I still do not understand. Where and when do you expect to see the special characters "on the screen"?

When I open Key Caps and press the option key, I can see all the characters that can be typed using the option key. The same with the shift key and with option-shift.

I can also type the special characters (or a word or sentence with special characters) in Key Caps. I can do that by clicking on the wanted characters in Kay Caps or by using my keyboard normally. I can then select and copy that text and paste it in a text document.

This is in System 7.0.1 and System 7.5.5.

Edit: Which fonts do you use?
Try one of the fonts that were installed by default with the system.

Yes, this could be to do with multi language OS I have, or RPI keyboard setting.
Cannot tell.

Also need to press Apple + Option to see special chars in `Key Caps', while option on its own
activates RPI menu. I can see special char keys are depressed when clicked but nothing is really typed.

This happens in 7.1.2 and 7.5.3 here.

Hi,

Got it, on RPI I need an inter key press.

Hold down Apple [=Alt, RPI compose key], and Option Key together, then release
Alt, still keeping Option key down => is the trick.

I am not familiar with RPI. Do both (left and right) option (Alt) keys activate the RPI menu?

The key to the left of `left Alt' activates RPI menu [has Windows logo on it ], right Alt is compose.

Confusing indeed.

Mac keyboard:
Control - Option - Command - Space - Command - Option - Control
(The option key is also labeled "alt", the command key used to be called "Apple key".)

Windows ANSI keyboard (usual in the USA)
Control - Logo - Alt - Space - Alt - Logo - Menu - Control
(The Logo key is the Windows logo key, the Menu key is not always available.)

Windows ISO keyboard (usual in Europe)
Control - Logo - Alt - Space - Alt Gr - Logo - Menu - Control
(The Alt Gr key is equivalent to Alt-Control on an ANSI keyboard, the Menu key is not always available.)

Windows users have a similar issue with the Windows key that brings up the Start menu.

In SDL2 BasiliskII and SheepShaver builds from current kanjitalk755 fork the translation of modification keys can be adjusted in the keycodes file.

In my latest keycodes file, Windows keys will be translated like this:

Ctrl Left --> Option
Logo Left ignored
Alt Left --> Command
Space
Alt Right --> Option
Logo Right ignored
Menu
Ctrl Right

(Alt Right is not translated to Command because that will not work on ISO keyboards.)

There are no translations worked out for Linux builds from kanjitalk755 source yet.

I do not know which fork/branch you used for compiling your BasiliskII build.

If you would like to experiment with a build from kanjitalk755 source and a keycodes file, I can help you with that.
