IDEA! instant basilisk 2!

Post by madmac »

what if we made our own basilisk II distro, with os 7.5.5 on it, startup sound, stuffit expander, BBE edit lite, some other stuff, on a 130 mb disk image, zipped up to about 50 mb?

mabe we could also put a performa 900 rom in?

i can make the windoze version!

Only if you want to go to Jail. The ROM is copyrighted software code.

I think you mean Basilisk II Black Hammer edition. It was pretty good, nice installer - but it never was updated again.

I removed my installer, Black Hammer II as I lost the source files I used to create it. It took me about a total of 1 week to program everything in and do graphics etc.

I was going to update it with a new version but I haven't had the time. With the other emulators coming out, I switched to Wise Windows Installer which was alot easier to use.

If there are enough people who still want a profesional Basilisk II Installer I will update Black Hammer.

I'll start putting the new installer together. Should be ready in about, oh a week or so. Less if I'm lucky. I'm fighting a cold at the moment so my progress will be slow.

I want to note that including a hard drive file with a Mac OS installed or containing any Apple software is also an illegal distribution. Sad, but very true.

All an installer can legally do is install
  • the various Basilisk II files,

the drivers (cd-rom is easy, networking is more advanced),

    maybe include a blank HDF,

and provide shortcuts to URL files in the Programs Menu that allow the user to go to the System 7.5 Network Access floppy image, the System 7.5.3 install files, the Basilisk II home page, Emaculation!, Stuffit Expander 5.5, etc.
I've used the freeware Inno Setup (& Studio) in the past to maintain an extensive installer for another program.

You (we) cannot distribute Apple software. We (you) don't have a license to distribute Apple software. Any starter disk hosted on Emaculation should be taken down.

It is only free to download directly from Apple and use if you are going to use it on a Mac you own (they log your IP). Others will back me up. I've known this for over 5 years. It's why I and many others have never created an installer with a pre-installed OS on a HDF.

If you were smarter or asked for help here, we could have helped you get Basilisk II up and running without the illegal download. I've helped many people setup Basilisk II legally over the last 6 years.

I highly doubt you know 50 people.

I find it amsuing and pathetic that people use the internet as an excuse to engage in blatant copyright violations because they feel safe and comfortable behind thier computer screen while having fun at other people's expense.

On another note, none of my installers ever had System Software included. Black Hammer II did have a small HFV file with a few essentials such as Stuffit Expander, Disk Copy (Which I have a license to provide as per Apple's Licensing System, although I need to update that) and Netscape 3. I had a link to the website download where one could get Apple System Software.

The new installer will have all currently available versions of Basilisk II, that way if the bugs or inabilities of one version don't suit an individual, then they can downgrade etc.

Might take me a bit to do this but once it's done it will be nice.
