Preferences automatically changed?

I set my preferences but then they get changed again. I even change them directly in the pref file but they still get changed. I can't seem to keep the "slirp" on there. Where is that located in the pref file?

To set "slirp" networking, the prefs file should contain the line:

ether slirp

[rymac]
