How do I change the Background in MAC OS 7.5.5?

Mac OS 7.5.5 can only have patterns, not pictures on the desktop unless you download a utility that does that. Go to the Control Panels and select "Desktop Patterns" and this will let you change it.
If you want a picture as a background, then you will need to find the utilities that do that or Upgrade to Mac OS 8.

Decor will give you a backgound picture under OS 7.5.5.
But, 7.5.5 will only display background pictures/patterns if you setup Basilisk II for 256 colors under the Screen tab of the BasiliskIIGUI. Even then, some ROM images won't allow background patterns/pictures (like the Quadra 700's).
