Current problems that prevent me from playing my old macgame

Post by fgabriel »

Since my CD driver is completle broken on my 19 y old LC 630 I tried to install bazilisk II on my Gaming PC and I have a problem with HFV Explorer that doesn't let me copy files to the virtual disc I created.
Also Basilisk II doesn't recognize the MacOs 8.1 install disc as a mac disc

Are you running Windows 7 64-bit? If I am not mistaken, both HFV Explorer and Basilisk II cannot mount physical CDs in Windows 7 64-bit.

I think you can create a BIN/CUE image using ImgBurn and then mount the image instead.

I would try a ISO image of your retail DVD created with IMGBurn.
Make the image [s]write[/s] read only in Windows to have it recognized as "CD".
System CDs for your LC may work or not, usually the retail is recommended.

You mean "read only," I hope. My old backup tapes are "write only."

My bad. "Read only" of course, just like real CDs would be. :)
Thanks for clarifying!

Just for the fun of it - what would be the use of a write only backup? :)

Data only available to hardcore filesystem hackers?

"Write only backup" was the in-joke for those old tape systems where you made daily backups to tape, and then found that the CRC failed or the controller was dead/obsolete when you went to restore years down the road.

We used to joke about having mandated write-only backups plus our personal worm backups (write once read many) that we had because we couldn't trust the mandated tape backups....
