Trouble installing Mac OS 7.5.3

Post by Skullmiser »

I've followed all of the instructions on this page, or so I thought.
http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/bas ... _osx_setup

While running the installer, it stops midway before telling me that the installer cannot copy the file "system" onto my disk. It tell me to delete that file and try again.

I tried running Disk first aid on the hard drive to no avail.
What might cause this problem?

The main thing that causes issues surrounding the system file is when you're attempting to install to the boot disk (where the existing system file is required for managing the currently loaded OS). Other issues include a locked disk image, a full disk, and a damaged installer.

Thank you for your quick response.
I don't think that any of those things are the source of trouble.
It boots from a disk other than the one to which I am installing, I got the installer straight from apple, and I do not think it is damaged. I made the virtual drive 10 GB, and it is not full. It is empty.

Maybe try a 7.1 PPC disk (image)?
Macintoshgarden is hosting some of them and I know I could install OS 7.5 for BasiliskII from my PPC 7100 boot disk. There seems to be a generic 7.5 installer on some early PPC boot disks.

The setup guide recommends 500 or 1000MB for the disk image. I myself never tried anything larger than 2000MB. You could try a smaller disk. If you need more room for applications and/or document files later, you can always create additional volumes.
