Basilisk 142 Install help

Post by monty1104 »

Hoping someone can help me here.

I have followed the install guide for Basilisk 142. I got up to the "disk" tab, browse to the two required disks, mount them, then hit run. Once I hit run, nothing happens. Any suggestions as to how I can proceed from here?

Are BasiliskII.exe and BasiliskIIGUI.exe together in the same folder?

Yeah, everything I needed for the install is in the one folder.

Hi,

Which host system are you using?
Did you download the 2008 build from our forum?
http://www.open.ou.nl/hsp/downloads/Bas ... 8_2008.zip
BasiliskGUI would normally only do nothing at "run" when the basiliskII program is not named BasiliskII.exe exactly. Please check the name.

Can you paste a copy of content of your BasiliskII_prefs file in your reply?

I have checked the file names and they all match up. I did download the August 2008 rebuild of BasiliskII.

Here is the content of my prefs file.

Hi,

I believe I found the culprit: When you click run, the GUI wants to run BasiliskII.exe. However, current security settings will make Windows ask whether you want to run BasiliskII.exe. The dialogue is never displayed when BasiliskII is started through the GUI.
Solution: Double-click BasiliskII.exe after you made the settings in the GUI (Click OK in the GUI to save them). Windows will show a warning regarding a program downloaded from the Internet. Un-tick the "show this warning...." and start BasiliskII.

After this first time run, you can start BasiliskII.exe from the GUI by clicking "Run".

Thanks, that fixed the problem.

I now have another question. System 7.5.3 is installed and I am now trying to install Stuffit 5.5. It is saying I don't have enough disk space, even though I have 151mb left. Any solutions?

Did you install System 7.5.3 yourself, or are you using an image you downloaded from somewhere? Is the volume read-only? Can you save a document created in an application?

Using an image from emaculation

I ran a test and saved a text edit file to the 7.5.3 volume and it saved fine, so it definitely isn't a read only volume

I copied the Stuffit installer to the bootdisk using HFV Explorer. The installer runs, but when it tries to install it tells me I need an extra 13kb of disk space, even though when I select the volume it says I have 144mb free.

It looks like you're trying to install Stuffit Deluxe -- just grab Stuffit Expander -- it's a stand-alone app that doesn't need installation, just gets dragged to wherever you want to run it from. Some of the later versions DO come in an installer, because they try to upsell as well as install DropStuff with Expander Enhancer. But you don't need any of that. Just the Stuffit Expander application.

I've always seen Stuffit Expander distributed as an installer – also, I think you need the later versions (5.x) for a lot of the archives floating around out there.

Anyway, I think the disk image at http://www.emaculation.com/articles/starterdisk.zip already includes an "installed" copy of Expander.
I copied the Stuffit installer to the bootdisk using HFV Explorer. The installer runs, but when it tries to install it tells me I need an extra 13kb of disk space, even though when I select the volume it says I have 144mb free.
If all else fails, just create a new volume (10 MB or whatever), mount it along with your boot volume in the Basilisk prefs, and try to install Expander there instead.
