Mac OS 8 in Basilisk Hangs at Start Up
Hello,
I'm new to the forums. I have installed Mac OS 8.1 on Basilisk II. Every was normal. However, after I finished installing and restarted basilisk, whenever I get to the screen where its starting up, it hangs there. I also noticed that the mouse won't move. This does not happen when I boot from the CD. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Here's a screenshot of where Basilisk freezes.

Hi,
Did you set networking options in the GUI? Please try to run with network set to "none". And please set Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses.
Best,

Re: Mac OS 8 in Basilisk Hangs at Start Up
Where can I find that?
Re: Mac OS 8 in Basilisk Hangs at Start Up
Did you use BasiliskIIGUI.exe to set the various preferences?
If so, use that program to set the preferences:
Open the Network tab and at Ethernet Interface select "none"
Open the Memory/Misc tab and tick "Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses"
Then click Start to save the preferences and run BasiliskII.
If you do not have the GUI installed, then open the file BasiliskII_prefs with a text editor (e.g., notepad). Find the line "ether" and remove any text behind that word, find the line "ignoresegv" and set it from "false" to "true".
While at it, please paste the contents of the changed BasiliskII_prefs in you reply.

Re: Mac OS 8 in Basilisk Hangs at Start Up
Oh, I see, you are running the old BasiliskII 142 version
What is your host system? It windows XP or Windows 2000?
Did you do a standard (easy) install of Mac OS 8?
I'll need some time to check the prefs out.
Best,
Cat_7

Re: Mac OS 8 in Basilisk Hangs at Start Up
Since I am testing this on a Windows 95 computer, I'm using Basilisk II version 0.9, since from what I know is the only version that supports 9x. This is my computer's specs:
Dell Optiplex GX110
Microsoft Windows 95 [4.0, Build 1212]
Processor: Intel Pentium III, ~866MHz
Memory: 510MB RAM
And yes I did a standard install of Max OS 8.

Hmm... if you're on Win95, you might want to try fiddling with this:
disable98optimizations false
I'd suggest stripping the prefs file back significantly, and seeing what works. Both your host and your emulator version are things I haven't touched in over a decade.

Re: Mac OS 8 in Basilisk Hangs at Start Up
Hi,
After installing windows 95 in Virtualbox (ouch) and installing BasiliskII build 142, I could finally reproduce your problem. It seems some extension is keeping Mac OS from running. I solved the issue by booting from the CD image of Mac OS 8, and then manually remove the first 6 extensions from the extensions folder in the system folder on the Mac OS 8 hard disk. This allowed me to finally boot Mac OS 8. After booting I put each removed extension back one at a time, and somehow all extensions now work.
(Although I don't see the EM extension as being available to select in the extensions manager, even though it is in the Extensions folder).
Best,
Cat_7

Re: Mac OS 8 in Basilisk Hangs at Start Up
Looks like I found a solution. I used v0.8 of Basilisk II, installed Mac OS 8, and it booted fine!
