I have a working copy of Basilisk II (I've installed Maelstrom and been able to play it), but I can't seem to get Quagmire to work. I downloaded a copy from Macintosh Garden and opened it with Stuffit Expander 5.5, but all I get is a file simply called "Quagmire." When I try to open it, I get the following error message:

The document "Quagmire" could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found. Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators.


I tried changing the file's type via HFVExplorer (I changed it to APPL), but that just created a new error message:

There is not enough memory to open "Quagmire" (zero K needed, zero K available). To make more memory available, try quitting "".


I've also tried deleting the file and copying it over from Windows again (via HFVExplorer), thinking that I might have done something wrong during that process, but the aforementioned problems are still persisting.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

I did just add a zipped IMG at the Quagmire page, feel free to try.
Best expand the zip in Windows and add the IMG to your Basilisk II volumes list.

Usually things do work as you said - expanding with Stuffit 5 on a Macintosh volume under Basilisk II.
Did you move the SIT file to your Mac HD before inflating?

That worked perfectly! Thank you very much! I've been looking for this game for a long time,and it's a joy to be able to play it again.

I did, so I don't know what the problem was. Could it be because I was using Stuffit 5.5?

Where did you get that idea..? Changing a file's type to APPL would only make sense if a file lost its Type/Creator information, but any application that has lost its Type/Creator information would also have lost its resource fork and thus be hopelessly beyond recovery. So I can't see how changing a file's type to APPL would ever be useful.

I'm a complete Mac novice, so I just blindly tried a solution that I found on another thread re: a similar problem with a game that gave the same error message I received. Obviously not the brightest idea. :wink:

I did try that, but nothing happened when I dragged the "Quagmire" file back to the Stuffit Expander icon (not even an error message).
