Play a old cd rom
Hi,
I want to know if you can play an old cd rom in this program and how to do it.
The cd rom is a Better Homes and Gardens recipes software and supports the Mac System 7.1 or older and Quicktime 2.0 or higher.
Thanks

Re: Play a old cd rom
Depends mostly on on your host system.
Which is your host sytem?
Which BasiliskII build do you run?
Which System/MacOS version did you install in BasiliskII?

Re: Play a old cd rom
The best route to playing the CD ROM (that particular one, anyways) would be to create a CD image of it and add it to the list in the prefs file, then run the emulator.
But it really does depend on your answers to Ronald's questions.

To be able to answer that question, we need your answers to the questions I asked above:
- Which is your host system?
- Which BasiliskII build do you run?
- Which System/MacOS version did you install in BasiliskII?

Re: Play a old cd rom
I did sent a reply to your first question this morning, but for some reason, did not go through
Basilisk version: Basilisk II 1.0, SDL2 port
System: Sys761
Do not know what a host is (new to this program) Except I am on MacOS Mojave 10.14

Re: Play a old cd rom
macOS Mojave 10.14 is your host system.
In macOS Mojave you can still use Disk Utility to create A disk image from the CD-ROM:
- Mount the CD in macOS
- Start Disk Utility (in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder))
- Select the CD volume (not the drive) in the list on the left
- Choose New Image from the File menu
- Choose DVD/CD master for the format
- Save the image file. It will take some time. The file will have a .cdr extension.
Best lock the image file in macOS Finder Info.
Use the BasiliskII GUI to add the image file to the volumes list.

Re: Play a old cd rom
Okay, I had done everything down to adding the image file to the volumes list.
the file now has a .cdr extension
When I click "file" , everything is grayed out except for the "find" button
new folder is grayed out.
so, what now??

Re: Play a old cd rom
You seem to be trying to add the CDR when you are running BasiliskII and you are using the top-line menu in the emulated Mac.
Close down BasiliskII and use the BasiliskII GUI application, which you can get from this site.
(Since you mention "Sys761" I wonder if you might be using an application called "System761". If you are in fact using that, then the procedure is entirely different.)

Okay, so yes, just noticed that yes, it is the Sys761 and not Basilisk
This is the download link I got it from : www.columbia.edu/.../macos9osx.html
Scroll down to " similar system that runs System 7.6.1 in BasiliskII". I had downloaded that zip file.
yeah.

Re: Play a old cd rom
I understand that you managed to create the disk image file.
You use the "System761" application, not a regular BasiliskII setup. Better start a new topic in the "Other SheepShaver configurations" subforum asking how to add the disk image in the "System761" application.

Please read the instructions on that page. They will give you the answer you want far more quickly than anyone here can provide it.KelleyM wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 2:56 am Okay, so yes, just noticed that yes, it is the Sys761 and not Basilisk
