Can't get some SIT files to open in MiniVmac with StuffIt 4

Post by JohnVam »

Hello I was wondering if someone could help me out with this issue I've been having. I got minivmac up and running and it can run most things. However there are a view very rare games like Cosmic Osmo and Galax I would like to get running for my son because he wants to see some of the "ancient" Mac games dad grew up on. I've been able to get things like Risk and Bird Race running but the following two games are only available in the form of SIT files that my stuffit program on vmac cannot work with. Stuffit run on windows creates a useless file with no fork so now I feel stuck. ANy advice or files to help me proceed would be GREATLY appreciated! :)

Galax Source File:

https://www.macintoshrepository.org/4651-galax

Osmo Source File:

https://www.macintoshrepository.org/439 ... y-version-

I really just need to convert that SIT file to a usable .dsk or .img file I can drag over to vmac so it will recognize it OR if possible find a program that will convert those files for me in the future?

Thank you kindly for any assistance you can provide.

Have you tried the copies from Macintosh Garden? They tend to be better curated, and have comments about what needs to be done to extract/run.

Sadly I just tried the garden file and it's the same. Downloads as a SIT file. stuffit4 can't see the file at all. The up to date stuffit smply expands it to another SIT file that the vmac can't work with.

MTT fixed the CD upload in summer 2020 (2nd DL) https://macintoshgarden.org/games/cosmic-osmo-cd
Best try that one.
Both game are hosted at Macintoshgarden since 2009, btw.
I just did add a Galax.img.7z, which does seem to work with MiniVMac.
The help files are lost, but you may recall how to play.
If you find the time please add a description/how to: https://macintoshgarden.org/games/galax

For completeness sake, I did add a 2nd DL for emulators here too: https://macintoshgarden.org/games/cosmic-osmo
