SheepShaver A-10 Cuba! crash

Post by ewood »

Hi fellas,

So, I'm trying various versions of SheepShaver on my G5 tower here with Leopard, and trying to run it with the Mac OS ROM Update 1.0 ROM file, windowed at 1024 X 768, I start up A-10 Cuba! in the thing only to have it locked up when the dialogue appears to register the program. The game runs in BasiliskII, albeit with not too impressive performance.

By the way, a screen capture of the crash:

Also, the very same thing happens with the latest version from MacPorts, and running that from the terminal, this is the feedback:

I hope that this info can be useful in making SheepShaver a more useful app!

Which builds of SheepShaver did you try? And did you enable "Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses" in SheepShaver preferences (as you should).

Took a short look at Demo mode only.
No problem with SheepShaver OS8.6 on my 10.6.8 host.

Yes, I usually have to use the Ignore Illegal Memory Access feature for the system to start up and run at all. As for builds, a number of them, including the latest available. I wasn't able to find one that did not crash like this, so it would seem to be an old problem already, whatever it actually is.

Interesting what 24bit says about the demo under 8.6; I don't have the demo on hand, but then I'm sure that doesn't ask for a serial number, either, and that was the point at which the full game was crashing.

Sorry for not being precise.
I registered the game and started with the button in the right lower (?) corner, so that it would show some flight operating scenes.
I´m no gamer and flying by keyboard seems to be troublesome.
Again, this was SS on a 10.6.8 AMD640 host. A G5 PPC host may differ deliberately.
