[SS on W10] Help !
Hello,
Firstly, I have to mention that I've been looking for a solution to my "problem" for several hours, and still can't solve it...
Secondly, I'm sorry for the mistakes I do, my English isn't on point.
So, I can't make SheepShaver working on my laptop.
I wanted to play my childhood game which is Power Pete, after seeing someone running it on PC through SS.
Unfortunately, I keep having the same message "cdenable.sys is missing" while running SS.exe, even if I previously added it manually in Windows\system32\drivers.
I thought about a problem due to my lack of CD drive on my laptop. I tried with my older one which has one, but got the same message.
Then I'm stuck with my "PowerPete.sit", without being able to run it...
Thanks in advance if anyone can help me.

Re: [SS on W10] Help !
I've got a simpler solution for you, although your problems can probably be resolved by downloading SheepShaver from this website and following the instructions on the Wiki to set it up.
The simpler solution is this: Power Pete was renamed to Mighty Mike due to a lawsuit brought by the makers of the PowerfulPete keyfob. Mighty Mike can be found here: http://www.pangeasoft.net/mightymike/info.html and has a number of bug fixes that make it play much better in SheepShaver (and PPC OS X) than PowerPete.

cdenable.sys is a device driver for Windows 32 bit, hence its unsupported on 64bit hosts.
Best DL Cat_7´s latest build and replace the old SheepShaver app with the new one.
http://www.open.ou.nl/hsp/downloads2/Sh ... 3-2015.zip
The sit files have to be expanded from within SheepShaver by Stuffit (Expander) on a Windows host.
There are a bunch of flavours of Stuffit, creator of SIT files.
The 3. DL here expands to toast (similar to ISO) which may be added to the SheepShaver Volume tab for mounting it. The toast image installs Stuffit Expander. http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/stuffit-expander-55
If you should wish to create SIT files yourself, you may still install a full version of Stuffit. Macintoshgarden is hosting a few flavours of Stuffit.

Re: [SS on W10] Help !
Thanks for your answers !
With the newest version downloaded through your link, I get a new issue : a message mentions that I'm missing SDL.dll.
Moreover, even if your explanation seems to be good and appears simple to you, I feel like I don't understand quite anything, with the very small knowledge I have...
I think I have to give up for this time.
Thanks a lot anyway for giving my post some interest !

You should not give up that soon.
Some reading of the very good guides here on the forum will solve most problems.
For the others on the same boat: It NOT that complicated to run SheepShaver on a Windows host.
1. Download these four:
http://www.open.ou.nl/hsp/downloads/She ... 5_2010.zip
http://www.open.ou.nl/hsp/downloads2/Sh ... 3-2015.zip
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macos-753-emulators (First DL)
http://www.emaculation.com/sheepshaver/ ... -setup.exe
2. Intall the GTK runtime.
3. Unzip the three files.
4. Move the first of these DL to a place on your C drive you like.
Rename SheepShaver.exe in that folder to SheepShaver.old (just in case)
Move the 01-03-2015 SheepSaver.exe into that folder.
Move the MacOS753.dsk into that folder.
5. Run SheepShaverGUI.exe and configure with using the OldWorldROM
Select the MacOS753.dsk in "Volumes" and set RAM to 512MB or more.
6. Run SheepShaver.
Thats all. You may now use additional disk images to install another MacOS (up to 9.0.4) or apps and games you wish.

Hello,
Thanks a lot 24bit for your answer.
I did all the steps you listed, but I still get an issue when running SheepShaver.exe.
In fact, after having put the .dsk file into "Add" in "Volumes" and setting RAM size in "Memory/Misc" to 512, I have the following message : "Cannot open ROM file". If I also put the .dsk into "Memory/Misc > ROM File", I get another issue : "Unsupported ROM type".
What did I do wrong ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: [SS on W10] Help !
In the field that says "ROM File" you should put the ROM file, not the .dsk file. That is why it says "ROM File" and not "Disk File."
The easiest thing to do is make sure that the ROM file is named "Mac OS ROM" (no extension).
The wiki tells you how to find a ROM file.

Thanks for your answer.
I finally got to run SheepShaver, on Mac OS 7.5 apparently. I already had the ROM file in the initial SheepShaver folder... It's named "Mac_OS_ROM_oldworld".
I managed to let my disks be accessible, and went to the game I want to play... but I can't run the .sit.
What step do I miss ? I'm really excited to be able to play the game.
Thanks in advance !

Re: [SS on W10] Help !
.SIT is the "default" file extension for compressed Mac Classic files.
To expand .SIT, Stuffit Expander is needed.
One possibility is this page, 3. DL: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/stuffit-expander-55
Unzip the file in Windows and add the resulting Toast image to your SS Volumes.
The Toast will be mounted at boot time and you may install Stuffit Expander onto your boot volume.
Please note that Stuffit 5.5 will expand a lot of .SIT files, albeit not all of them.
Recent versions of Stuffit can create .SIT files incompatible with 5.5.
In such case, some kind soul will surely re-package a desired file for you.
In any case, Stuffit files MUST be expanded on a Mac volume large enough to hold source and target.
Expanding does not work on the Unix or "This Computer" volume, nor with files moved from there to the Mac desktop.
Some large disk images are collected here: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/disk-images-emulators

Re: [SS on W10] Help !
.sit files are the equivalent of .zip files for classic Mac OS. You need Stuffit Expander installed to decompress them.
If they are old .sit files, they store data in the resource fork -- which means if you've stored them on any OS other than Mac OS or OS X, you'll have lost the compressed data and will need to re-download.
This is only for Stuffit files pre-199.5
[edit] Ninja'd!
