running a cd-rom on sheepshaver
I am trying to run a cd-rom on sheepshaver. When clicking the installation file on it I get this error: "application was unable to start due to an error. Please contact customer support"
I imagine this means I've run into a sheepshaver limitation or is there something I should know to run cd-roms?
thanks and best,

Please give more information about your setup: Which host system? Which SheepShaver build? What kind of CD-ROM with which software? Did the error have a number?

Re: running a cd-rom on sheepshaver
I've got a problem too with the Reading of a CD rom on sheepshaver. Not exactly the same as said in the first post but, when I put the CD on my computer (a MacbookPro version 10.12.6 (16G1314)) and launch Sheepshaver, it recognizes it as a hard disk I guess, in fact, it asks me to initialize it, as it did at the first start of sheepshaver. It doesn't just make it appear on the MacOS9 desktop.. I don't know how to do to open this game, I'm kinda desperate... can you help me please ?
Thanks

Re: running a cd-rom on sheepshaver
As is explained in the setup guide and in many topics in this forum: OSX 10.8 and later, so also macOS 10.12, prevents mounting of physical CD-ROMs in SheepShaver. You will need to make a disk image from the CD and use that. See the instructions in the setup guide.
(I am not sure if the volume that OS9 wants to initialize in your case is indeed the CD-ROM as SheepShaver should not be able to "see" that disk at all.)

Re: running a cd-rom on sheepshaver
It does that only when i previously inserted a CD-ROM on my computer so...
I didn’t find any answer in the forum which gave me a precise answer about my problem
How can I find the topic which talk about that ?
Thank you so much for your reply

Changing the configuration to ignore illegal instructions might be worth a try. See for instance:

Also make sure that "Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses" is enabled in Preferences > Miscellaneous, as instructed in the setup manual.

Re: running a cd-rom on sheepshaver
I have successfully installed SheepShaver and OS9 within it on my El Capitan Mac and the emulator seems to work fine; it opens up a window showing the old OS9 desktop. It does not however seem to recognize my CD/DVD player. When I insert a CD or DVD, it appears on my regular desktop screen like usual, but when I open SheepShaver, the disk is nowhere to be found, it does not even seem to know it has a drive for CDs or DVDs. I have an older version of Final Cut Pro I want to install and it needs the "Classic Environment" which El Capitan does not have. So I installed an emulator (SheepShaver to run OS9), but if it cannot "see" the drive, I'll not be able to install Final Cut Pro, nor will I be able to burn DVDs once I have used Final Cut Pro to create videos.

Re: running a cd-rom on sheepshaver
This issue has already been addressed at the top of the thread. Links to instructions have already been provided.
As far as FCP goes, just burn your DVDs to disc images instead; these can be saved on-disk, or written out to DVD on the host.

Re: running a cd-rom on sheepshaver
You already posted this question in a new thread yesterday and it was answered there: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9863
You will need to create a disk image from the Final Cut Pro install CD and mount that image in SheepShaver.
See our setup guide here: https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sh ... os_x_setup
You will not be able to burn CDs with Final Cut Pro in SheepShaver. You may be able to create CD images in SheepShaver that you can then burn in El Capitan as adepoton suggests.
