PearPC: PPC Emulation?!
Talk about PearPC.

The Slashdot story:
http://developers.slashdot.org/article. ... 187&tid=99
"We have finally released version 0.1 of our PowerPC architecture emulator: PearPC. The emulator itself is (prepared to be) architecture independent but only tested on x86s (here you go porters...). It also features a must faster just-in-time compilation unit for x86 hosts. This means that you can now run your favourite PowerPC-OS on x86: Mandrake Linux (9.1), Darwin (6 + 7) and Mac OS X (10.3)! And the best things is: it's GPL'd. But be warned: it's experimental.."

This emulator runs on Windows too, the binary is available to download.
About Mac OS X, the author comments:
"Mac OS X 10.3: Runs well with some caveats"
And also check the screenshots on his site showing Mac OS X installing!
The shinny look of X sends shivers down my spine...
Hmmm... Right now I wish I had a Mac OS X CD to test this...
I'm trying to boot and install Mac OS 8.6 UK now...
Having some problems with the cdrom not recognised as bootable.
I will try make a proper ISO image out of it cause I don't thing WinImage made a correct one.

Got it to run in windows..
1. I took my panther cd's and made .iso files in alcohol 120%
2. Then I downloaded pearpc (jit version for windows) and the 6 gig hard drive file.
3. Then I downloaded the darwin boot cd and partitioned it like the site said
4. Booted off of OSX cd
ooooooh, so slow but so pretty, can't believe it works!

No luck here...
I used Gemulator Explorer to make images but the disks don't seem to be read correctly and PearPC doesn't accept the images.
Also in Alcohol 120%... How can I make an ISO from it? The only choice I'm given when I try to make an image is an .mds file and .ccd file.
The resulting .mds and .mdf image from my Mac OS 8.6 UK and GR cds is not recognised as bootable again...
Help... Please???
I just wish PearPC had an interface that you could select options and also use real CD-ROM drives like SheepShaver.

P.S. It seems that many people bitch at SheepShaver now... This is wrong! The authors of these emulators must collaborate and produce a great emulator that will run Mac OS X under Windows!!!

*More* PearPC screenies (and install guides)
If you hie over to NEOWIN (http://www.neowin.net) and go to the Windows NT/2000/XP Client section of their forums, you'll find moire tips on installing PearPC, more screenshots (including one of my own Panther-based PearPC setup with both About This Mac *and* My Computer Properties from XP on display at the same time), etc.
I've added PearPeeler to the mix since then, and imported my working configuration. The only change I made since installing PearPeeler was doubling the RAM (256 MB vice 128). Performance is a *lot* snappier.
Queston: Can I substitute a second HD for the CD-ROM post-install? I'm thinking of creating a disk image of various OS X apps and mounting it via PearPeeler.
