Go into the Sound control panel and select an audio device; there will be none selected by default. I believe this is in the BII setup guide?

Selecting an output device in Sound control panel is needed in later System versions. It is not needed, and indeed not possible, in System 7.1.

I do not know why sound does not work for you. When you click in Sound control panel on one of the Alert Sounds, you should hear that sound.

Did you check if sound does not happen to be disabled in the GUI (or in the prefs file)?

Hi,

What rom file are you using?
You might want to try a different rom file.

Best,

Hello !

I use the rom provided in the Basilisk II pack -> Mac OS ROM which is 1024 KB

Code: Select all

Hachage MD5 de Mac OS ROM:

af343f3f1362bf29cefd630687efaa25
Isn't that the right rom ?!

That is the Performa rom, usually considered the one with best results for BasiliskII. You can try and search for other rom files, but I doubt the missing sound has to do with the rom file.

Install QuickTime 2.5 to make sound work in System 7.1 in BasiliskII.

Hello thank you for your help !

I installed Quick Time 2.5 & the sound works in System 7.1 !

On the other hand, impossible to open a .sit file with Stuffit Deluxe 3.7... I had to open Quick Time 2.5.sit with Stuffit Expander 5.5 on System 7.5.3 & then transfer the content to System 7.1 with HFVExplorer... that's a lot of manipulations...

Do you have an explanation why Stuffit Deluxe 3.7 does not work on System 7.1 but works on System 6.0.7 ?!

Does Stuffit Deluxe 3.7 not run in System 7.1 or does it run but couldn't it expand this sit archive?

Hello yes indeed Stuffit Expander 5.5 works on System 7.1 but not the Grand Prix Circuit game... there is always a problem it's complicated you have to juggle with the versions of System Apple & Stuffit...

About sound in 7.1 and BasiliskII, I found this on Macintosh Garden:

"To get it work in Basilisk II, install System Update 3.0 (make sure it's 68020) to activate sound."

It's on this page:

https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macint ... Update_3.0

EDIT: But after installing this, my BasiliskII System 7 setup wouldn't exit cleanly and had to be shut down from the Force Quit menu in macOS. So maybe it's not a good idea to install it. Fortunately, I had a backup.
