I have just spotted this on the authors website: -

This does not currently work with WinXP SP2 or the OpenVPN v2.0 listed below. I am working on a new patch.

Even though SP2 is not available yet, I thought that I would check my Windows XP version using the winver command from the command prompt and I got this: -

Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633: Service Pack 1)

Note that after the 2600 it has a xpsp2 - does this mean that if you have installed the latest updates from the Microsoft Windows Update server, you already have the SP2 that is due to be released?

I know that the new SP2 is basically going to be all the security updates and patches etc, with a few other security changes.

Can anybody else give feedback on the version of Windows XP that they are running and if they have the patch working or not?

It might help those who are having problems.

Thanks

Also just had another thought -

There are currently two builds available with the patch for networking in

1) The nightly builds that have the Full Screen patch

and

2) The builds from John's website

Which ones are people using and do they work? I am thinking that maybe only one of them works and not the other.

Any feedback might help.

So the subsequent nightly builds will include the Fullscreen and Windows Networking patches now?

I'm using the nightly build from Richard Goodwin's site.

Ancient Imhotep, I have the exact same build string as you for Windows, and I got it to work using the TAP32 1.6 installer.

CaptainValor - It would appear that there will be a version on the nightly builds site, although it would appear to be a generic verison (not P4 or AMD64 optimised).

This may change though, is there any way to get hold of Richard and see if he can run the optimised builds as well?

Jackalo - Thanks for the feedback, as long as I know that some else got it running using the same settings as me then I will keep trying.

Are you using the 192.168.0.xxx IP range on your network or 10.0.0.xxx range?

Thanks.

I think he should build the new networking and fullscreen support into his optimized builds as well. I mean, that's where we want PPC to be going permanently, so it should be included in 0.2.

CaptainValor,

I have just sent an e-mail to the address on Richard Goodwins website for the nightly builds.

I have asked if the optimised builds contain the updates for Full Screen and Networking.

If they do not, I have asked if this could be arranged.

I took the liberty of passing on everyone in this forums thanks for providing the service that he has - I think that you will all agree that without his site, those of us who do not know how or don't have the time to compile the source.

I will post any reply that I get and hopefully it will be a good answer.

Ancient Imhotep, my network is in the 192.168.x.x range, but it should be fairly simple to adapt the guide for the 10.x.x.x range.

My best idea would be to set the TAP32 IP address to 10.0.254.1 / 255.255.255.0 (I'm betting it's unused), and then configure the IP inside of OS X for 10.0.254.200 / 255.255.255.0. Make sure you point your DNS inside of OS X towards your router/gateway, or even towards your real nameservers.

I hope that works for you.

so if my routers IP address is 222.222.1.1 (I connect through a wireless router and thats its IP), I config my TAP32 IP address to be 222.222.254.1 and and then IP inside osx for 222.222.254.200? The DNS server of my computer is 222.222.1.1...should that be the DNS server on PearPC too? (I would assume so)

After some trouble it worked for me. I'm behind a router also.

I could connect until I changed inside panther the DNS server from 192.168.0.1 to my ISP dns server. (or at least, I think that's what I did).

Apparently there are a lot of possibilities for the DNS settings inside of OS X. So far we have

1) The IP for the TAP32 connection (usually 192.168.0.1)
2) The IP for the LAN port on your router (usually 192.168.1.1)
3) The IP for the DNS servers your ISP provided

Hm... That was a big ball of thunder outside my window. My 21" monitor just shook.

Jackalo,

Thanks for the help, but my problem is that I cannot even get the Mac OS X 10.2 to show the network adapter in the 'Show' box under Network Settings.

I will just have to keep playing around and see what happens.

Maybe the new networking patch that is going to be released will fix it!!

Networking problems on 10.2

I have installed the driver from Realtek for OS X 10.2 but this does not resolve the problem of the card not appearing in system preferences.

Hm... Are you using a build that includes the RealTek support? Make sure that the following lines are set and not commented out

pci_rtl8139_installed = 1
pci_rtl8139_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:35"

re: realtek support

Yes this build has realtek support and I have those two lines in my config and not commented out. Seems as though this is a problem with 10.2 and pearpc.

Jackalo,

I have downloaded the build from the Nightly Builds and I have the lines in my config file.

One worrying thing is that I have a 34 at the end of my Mac address and you have 35.

Is that a typo or do I have it wrong?

Breaking News!!!!!!!!!!

Just found the following on the networking patch website: -

New version out: R2
Changelog:
R2:
Added OpenVPN v2.0Beta2 Support (required for WinXP SP2 users)
Fixed Realtek driver to actually use mac addr form the config file instead of random memory (stops the card from getting readded on every boot)

Maybe everyone that has the problem of it not working should try this new version.

Well,

There is nothing on Richard Goodwins site to suggest that it has been added to the builds.

But it has only just been release on the original authors site about 5 mins ago.

I am sure that Richard will add it into tonights builds, so we may have to wait until later for a complete build.

There should be a new patched and compiled version on the networking site soon.

Problems with Os X aka Panther and Win2k w/ Sp4

Post by Guest »

Got OS X 10.3 working but I can't seem to get the TAP32-WIN-adapter to work. I't seems as if there is a Windows problem, here's what happens:

1. I install the 2.0 version of the driver (and only the driver, nothing else).

2. I go to network settings to enable the Internet Connection Sharing on my regular NIC but then i get this message:

Are you sure you want to enable Internet Connection-sharing?
- i click yes

Then this message pops up:

"An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled

Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled. The LAN connection
selected as the private network is either not present, or is
disconnected from the network. Please ensure that the LAN
adapter is connected before enabling Internet COnnection Sharing."

I can see the adapter and it says "Network cable unplugged"
but this should not make a difference, or does it?

I have tried enabling Internet Connection Sharing for my other
NIC and then it worked, but not for the TAP-32 driver.

What could be wrong? All help is welcome!

You cannot enable ICS on the connection for the TAP device.

It should be your NIC inside your PC that you enable this on.

I know, it is not the TAP-device i am enabling it on, it is my regular NIC

Sorry but from your post it looked like you thought that you should be enabling on your TAP device.

Cannot help you any more than that, as I am unable to get it running on my setup.

You could try the latest version when it is release in a bit.

I noticed this in my config:

#pci_3c90x_installed = 1
#pci_3c90x_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:34"

pci_rtl8139_installed = 1
pci_rtl8139_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:35"

johns site says to set the mac address to 34, though that is the mac address of the other card...which is the correct version? I am going to try 35 and see what happens

perhaps this will eliminate a lot of headaches for everyone

I tried 35 and 34 and neither of them work for me.

It would be good to see what happens at your end.
