Emulators on mobiles?

Anything about Mac emulation that does not belong in the above categories.

Emulators on mobiles?

Post by 24bit »

Hello folks,
I recently came across a Moto ZN5 in a pawn shop and found it quite appealing because of camera and wifi.
However I don´t think there ever was a port of MiniVMac for Motomagx/Java, was it?
Even then, 240 x 320 pixels is quite few and the ZN5 lacks a touch screen too.
Maybe I should rather look for some other nice device that can handle phone calls?
Would someone care to share his experiences about MiniVMac on cell phones?

Edit: Regarding MiniVMac, it seems it was all said and done some time ago.

I wonder whether anybody is willing to add a guide about running MiniVMac in color on Android cell phones?

That looks like an old Android...and that screen is rather big.

Anyways, even the oldest macs had a resolution of 512x342. And a conventional mobile phone doesn't have that much screen space. You'd need some mouse and keyboard control, and I doubt Java would be economic in performance use. Also, you said that you ZN5 lacks a touch screen. That would make control almost impossibly hard, since the only way to control a mouse then would be to use the buttons.

Good luck though, I'd love to see Mini vMac running on a mobile phone.

http://minivmac.sourceforge.net/ports.html

I just found out that there's an android port available for download in the Mini vMac site.
Maybe you could try your luck with that.

Thanks for your answers, comrade.
There are ports for Android in b/w (free) https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rch_result
and 256 colors (2$) https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... WFjLmlpIl0. available.
We have a German Wiki about that too http://www.droidwiki.de/Mac4Droid

I had a short look at MiniVMac on my wife´s Galaxy550.
Basically the emulator works fine, but there is a lot of scrolling with a 320x240 screen.
The biggest problem is double-clicking, as my fingers are at least twice the size of the Mac´s Icons. :)

I guess cursor movement would be easier for me with 2-4-8-6 and 5 as mouse button,
but I don´t think there was a port for the dead Motorola Linux/Java platform.
