Just dropping by to say hi from Safari. I love the networking support, but it's still SOOO slow. I'll be sure to get the new 2.0 driver. I wondered why OS X re-recognized the card on this bootup... ;)

PS: Holy crap! I want iChat to be the next Mac-PC converted app, it blows the socks off AIM!

Startup Problems.

Post by Somebuddy »

my ppc.cfg states:
pci_rtl8139_installed = 1
pci_rtl8139_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:34"

2.0 TAP driver is installed on w2k, latest service pack

but then:

[TAP-WIN32]: Enumerating TAP devices...
[TAP-WIN32]: Could not locate any installed TAP-WIN32 devices.
[IO/rtl8139] <Error> Open enetif failed: Operation not permitted

any ideas? thx!

Got OS X 10.3 working but I can't seem to get the TAP32-WIN-adapter to work. I't seems as if there is a Windows problem, here's what happens:

1. I install the 2.0 version of the driver (and only the driver, nothing else).

2. I go to network settings to enable the Internet Connection Sharing on my regular NIC but then i get this message:

Are you sure you want to enable Internet Connection-sharing?
- i click yes

Then this message pops up:

"An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled

Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled. The LAN connection
selected as the private network is either not present, or is
disconnected from the network. Please ensure that the LAN
adapter is connected before enabling Internet COnnection Sharing."

I can see the adapter and it says "Network cable unplugged"
but this should not make a difference, or does it?

I have tried enabling Internet Connection Sharing for my other
NIC and then it worked, but not for the TAP-32 driver.

What could be wrong? All help is welcome!
The problem were solved by:

Downloading and installing the latest build from:
http://www.kelley.ca/pearpc/pearpc_noar ... net-R2.rar

Then I solved the problem by 1st booting the Mac OS X and letting it find the TAP-NIC, afterwards (while Mac OS X still running) I enabled the Internet Connection Sharing and then return back to Mac OS X and setting everything manually (as on the webpage)!

Just in case anyone would get in the same situation as me!
Btw, did you know that this software kicks ass!?

Congrats to the authors of it

EDIT: Fixed my problems. If you are on a wireless connection, you have to enable ICS from your wireless connection TO your openvpn connection. I am currently in the process of configuring ip's so I"ll keep you guys in tune.

If you are on wireless, do NOT go from your normal wired lan connection and share your wireless connection...doesn't work that way! (as I stupidly found out)

It "could" be I don't forsee it though....are you able to use TCP based programs? If so I don't know where the issue would be

Under XP I wasn't able to use ICS cause of the router, I got around this by bridging the local connection and the tap one. works great

Cool

Post by Cybermagellan »

I'm not sure why that is working it should work the directed way....however good info to have...the more work arounds we have the better the documentation for the software we can gather and create. As far as that goes I recommend that if you have a work around that you list it in the appropriate thread. I will try to get approval for a documentation site for that....

this is so frustrating...it says I have an IP and yet it won't work...that way or manually configuring

my wireless router ip: 192.168.1.1
my computer ip: 192.168.1.2
dns: same as my wireless router ip

what the heck am I doing wrong? I put 192.168.1.1 for dns and 192.168.0.200 for the ip...192.168.0.1 for "router" in pearpc and it still doesn't work. can't figure out the dumb ip's...

DNS?

Post by Cybermagellan »

I've noticed alot of members that are having an issue with Wireless connections.....and are you configuring manually I don't remmeber entering a DNS however that was last night....I know the new update of 10.3.2 has updated wireless support so you might wanna try to download and install that......(even though this is VPN, it's just a recommendation) um, as far as that goes remove the DNS part....I've heared that as well that the DNS resolution isn't handled by PearPC better leave it to windows....as long as you have the connection to the Windows enviroment everything should be fine

cybermagellan, I will try not entering a dns and see what happens.

it told me last time that I was connected and had an ip...but I still couldn't connect. I guesss I"m just frustrated. I have a wireless connection...netgear 54g...their addresses are above. is our IP 192.168.0.200 no matter what the IP of our router is?

thanks captainvalor for that

Same error: could not open the page http://livepage.apple.com because the server livepage.apple.com could not be found

This does not currently work with WinXP SP2 or the OpenVPN v2.0 listed below. I am working on a new patch.

Even though SP2 is not available yet, I thought that I would check my Windows XP version using the winver command from the command prompt and I got this: -

Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633: Service Pack 1)

Note that after the 2600 it has a xpsp2 - does this mean that if you have installed the latest updates from the Microsoft Windows Update server, you already have the SP2 that is due to be released?

I know that the new SP2 is basically going to be all the security updates and patches etc, with a few other security changes.

Can anybody else give feedback on the version of Windows XP that they are running and if they have the patch working or not?

It might help those who are having problems.

Thanks
no i have the same thing when i do winver and i have no problem connecting ppc to the web

No I believe that would read Service Pack 2 which is still "beta" I believe I may be wrong....

However there is a new binary for it on John_K's page...

Please correct me if I am wrong

i got that when i tried to use R1 with openvpn 2b2. Maybe if you are trying with R2 you need to install openvpn 2b2(or if you are on R1 you must have 1.6)

Ok, has anyone been able to connect using the new R2 version? I can't seem to get networking going with it using THE SAME CONFIG FILE as with the first one. This is very frustrating. :?

Before the newest beta was posted I installed 1.6 and worked flawless...can't hurt to try...if not let us know...
