Hybrid ISO with BasiliskII for Windows

Post by ebann »

Hello friends,

I downloaded the hybrid ISO image for the game "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" and when running Basilisk II for Windows, the ISO mounted as a PC (ISO 9660). I could not find the Mac installers... only the Windows EXE installer. How do I make this work?

Thanks!

The game will not run on a 68k emulator like BasiliskII.
It was released in 2001 for PPC Mac (and Windows) and should run in Mac OS 8.6 through Mac OS X 10.5.8. You will need a PPC emulator like SheepShaver or Qemu.

I should have been clearer on the version I used... https://macintoshgarden.org/games/where ... andiego-35

I downloaded version 3.5

"Versions 3.0 & 3.5: Mac OS 7.1-9.2 (68k) / Windows 3.1 - Windows 98
Versions 3.0 and 3.5 run best in Basilisk II. Version 4.0 runs in SheepShaver."

How did you try to mount the "World 3.5 iso" file in BasiliskII? If the file is added to the volumes list in the GUI, It should appear on the BasiliskII desktop as a Mac CD with the Mac installer on it. It works here in BasiliskII for macOS and I cannot think of any reason why it would not work in BasiliskII for Windows.

BTW: You may need to right-click the image file in Windows and set it to “read only” in the “properties” menu in order to convince the System in BasiliskII that the disk is indeed a (read-only) CD.

I mounted as a disk volume, and it shows as a “hard disk” icon as opposed to a “cdrom” icon.

When opened, it shows the PC files and installer.

Note: it works fine under Linux.

Not sure what you mean. Did you add the iso file to the volumes list in the GUI?

Files on Macintosh Garden are sometimes zipped in a MacOSX zip format. I re-zipped it in a format that is certain to be compatible with al platforms. If also this one does not work in Windows, then it could be a bug in the Windows version of BasiliskII.

I am not familiar with this interface. It is different from the GUI used with current BasiliskII for Windows builds. See our setup manual here: https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/basilisk_ii_setup

Maybe someone familiar with the BasiliskII version and interface that you are using can tell if you are doing something wrong.

It seems you are running an ancient version of Basilisk.

It might not be able to read the iso in the same the latest versions do.
Get a new basilisk here:
viewtopic.php?t=5282

Put all the files in a new folder and run the BasiliskGUI and follow this guide to set it up:
https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/basilisk_ii_setup

You can use your hard disk image and rom file etc. also in the new version.

Indeed it was just that! My old Basilisk couldn’t discern the hybrid CDROM. The new version worked flawlessly.
