If you search for "MacOS9 for macOS" you will find the same system for macOS.

Sorry. The exact same possibilities are available for macOS:

You can do a regular SheepShaver setup on macOS for any MacOS version from System 7.5.3 through MacOS 9.0.4.
Setup manual: https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sh ... os_x_setup
Downloads: viewtopic.php?t=7360

Or (as emendelson mentioned above) you can use a ready to use SheepShaver for macOS with MacOS 9.0.4 installed or a ready to use BasiliskII for macOS with System 7.5.1 installed.
For both, search the web for "Mac OS 9 for macOS".

Ronald P. Regensburg wrote: Fri May 12, 2023 7:51 am Right. Edward Mendelson will need to change the Wrapper application to accept also an old world rom. Maybe he will.
Excellent reminder. Thank you. I've now updated the app to give an appropriate prompt when a ROM file with 4,194,304 bytes is dropped on it. That's the size of the Old World ROM at the Redundant Robot site. I can add other sizes if anyone finds any.

And to the OP, yes, Ronald is right. There is absolutely no reason to use the SheepShaver wrapper unless you need it.
Edward, try here ;) https://github.com/adespoton/MacROMan

Thank you: I downloaded it, and I see many different Old World ROMs, but - presumably I'm being merely stupid - I don't see anything that tells me which ones work with SheepShaver and Mac OS 8.5.x, which is what I would need to know so that the SheepShaver Wrapper could respond correctly when a ROM is dropped on to it.

Presumably I'm missing something obvious, but I hope you'll let me know what I'm missing and where to find it.

MacROMan has the comments built into it to advise as to which ROMs work with which emulators.

However, I've also got a spreadsheet that lays it out:

Ah - I see. Thank you. I should have seen this earlier (and would have seen it had I opened the code in Xcode and searched). If I ever rewrite the Wrapper app to test for specific ROMs, instead of merely checking file sizes, this will be very useful indeed. Thank you again.

And I can confirm that Mac OS 8.5 installs successfully in the current SheepShaver Wrapper, using the Old World ROM from Redundant Robot. I unchecked the install option to update the hard disk drivers, but I don't know if that's actually necessary.

If your disk image actually has a driver partition, I *think* you don't need to uncheck that checkbox. If all you have is an HFS(+) partition image, bad things will likely happen when the installer attempts to write the driver to a partition that doesn't exist. Safest just to uncheck the option.

kanjitalk755 has added a fix to the SheepShaver code that lets Script Editor 1.4.3 run without crashing in SheepShaver. I've updated the SheepShaver Wrapper to match.

Details on this page:

http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/sheepshaverwrapper.html

Everything else is the same as before.

For what it's worth (probably not much) I've updated all my AppleScript-based apps that run System 7 through Mac OS 9.0.4 under macOS. The only difference with earlier versions is that they use current code from kanjitalk755. The forum now allows links to pages with download links for this kind of app, so here's a link:

https://mendelson.org/macos9osx.html

I haven't updated the "rootless" version of the System 7.6.1 app, but will do so if and when the required source code gets updated.

I've also updated the Windows versions:

https://mendelson.org/macos9win.html

All of these apps are notarized for macOS or codesigned for Windows.
