Installer Impasse

Post by GaryM_45 »

Hi. I'm new to this so bear with me please. I'm trying to install ClarisWorks 3 on minivMac running OS 6.0.8, and the installer stalls when it asks for a swap of disk 2 for 1. Is there anything I can do to get disk 2 recognized, or am I out of luck? I've tried having all 4 disks on the desktop before starting and that didn't help, I've tried opening disk 2 from the file menu, same result. Are there any disk images out there with CW3 running that I could copy, and thus avoid the install impasse? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

The installer assumes there's only one floppy drive, and waits for the contents of the drive to change to the label it's expecting.

This means that adding all the disks won't work, as it's still watching the first disk. Instead, you may have some luck ejecting the first disk and then "inserting" the second one.

If that doesn't work, the alternate solution is to copy all the disks into a folder on a larger volume, put the installer app in the same folder (so copy it out of disk 1 folder up a level) and run the installer like that. This works for *some* Apple Installers, but not all.

I have to say, I've never attempted to install Claris Works on System 6; CW3 was released in 1994.

There's also a CD version of Claris Works 3, so you could mount the iso of that and install from there (I believe it just uses the folder trick).

The ClarisWorks 3.0 for Mac over at WinWorldPC installs and runs fine on System 6.0.8 in Mini vMac.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did try using a CD version, but that had the same installer and floppy disk arrangement, and again I got the same stalled behavior. I wondered if the installer was looking for the literal "Disk 2", and after changing the label on the desktop icon to "Disk 2" (and same with disks 3 and 4), the install was successful!!!
