Hi there,
I'm currently using MAME / Ample to run Mac II and Mac LC emulation. It works really well - my prior issues with sound in certain games appears solved. Great.
Getting .dsk or .img files downloaded from Macintosh Garden etc has been a challenge. I tried following the directions here: https://wiki.mamedev.org/index.php/Driver:Mac_68K but have had very little luck:
1. ScuzEmu 0.5 fails in mid-copy with most of the files I've tried. (error 2)
2. Creating an .iso almost worked, but all the files in the iso are all caps'd and can't be read / run by the emulated system. Definite user error here, not sure what I'm doing wrong though.
3. In Ample, I haven't been able to figure out how to get it use a .dsk or .img as a floppy disk (-flop1 MAME arg)
Using Disk Jockey to update a hd image made with Basilisk II works but is a pretty clunky workflow if I just want to try a random ROM etc.
It feels like I'm making this too hard on myself - any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Nick

Re: Getting files / dsk images into MAME
What host system are you using? Since you're using Ample, I presume it's a Mac; my M1 Mac has worked via ScuzEmu and via creating an iso.
The easiest solution is probably to install https://macfuse.github.io/ and https://thejoelpatrol.github.io/fusehfs ... -0.1.5.pkg -- then you can mount HFS partitions on your host system again (assuming it's macOS 11+).
The all caps is because you're creating an ISO-9660 CD; old Macs can only read the DOS partition info off those. You could also try installing the Joliet system extension in the old systems, which may allow you to read the Windows 9x partition info off the CD images.
As for the .dsk and .img files... you need to install the virtual driver as a NuBus card in the MAME Mac, and use that to mount those images; they likely don't have the appropriate partition data to be mounted as a regular floppy image. .dsk files for instance are usually just an HFS partition.
For ScuzEmu, are you running with Throttle enabled, and the acceleration option disabled? If not, this could be causing issues.

Re: Getting files / dsk images into MAME
Thanks for this - using the NuBus virtual adapter worked great. Only issue is that I have to use the Mac II ROM in order to use it
. I prefer the LC ROM for what a I'm doing - but no big deal, I can boot with the Mac II and copy to the same HD I use with the LC.
Thanks!
Nick
