Sound and display problem?

I have a mac iifx along with Basilisk II which is installed on Windows 11 and Linux Mint 22.1. All three are running 7.5.3. The system alert sounds do not work correctly on the emulators when I use the iifx ROM from my machine. The sounds are correct with the Performa ROM that I got from the 'redundant robot' site. For both emulators and both ROMs I have found that the scroll bar behaves incorrectly. The extensions manager is a good example. Clicking on the up or down arrow should move the list by one line up or down. Instead it moves the list to the top or bottom in the emulators.

Finally I have version 1.4 of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego that I installed on the mac iifx and the emulators. Works fine on the iifx and basically crashes the emulators on Windows and Linux with either ROM. Somehow the emulators can't handle the sound and animations at the startup. Program starts and displays the opening graphic and then a mouse click sends it to the "detective" sign in. Type one letter and poof.

Insights are welcome!

It doesn't cover all of your issues, but https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... Dk7QDyKPY/ -- Basilisk II doesn't emulate a IIfx, so attempting to use a IIfx ROM will cause issues -- because the emulator works by patching out locations in the ROM, and so if the right things aren't at those locations, unexpected stuff happens. You do have to ensure you've got the FPU enabled.

Since there's a relationship between audio and the FPU, this may also be your issue elsewhere. If you're running 7.5.3, you are probably better off using the Performa ROM and Gestalt ID, as that's what the emulator actually emulates.

The scroll bar via up and down arrows is likely a symptom of keyboard sampling -- because the real keyboard is patched into the input device list, so it's not going to behave exactly like a real keyboard.

Using MAME is probably going to get you closer to emulating your actual IIfx.

MAME does look promising but I am not getting very far. I was able to get it to accept, or at least find, my iifx rom file, but it seems to want a file associated with the video card. I am stumped.

F:\Apple Emulation\Macintosh\MAME>mame maciifx -hard mac755.chd
3410868.bin NOT FOUND (tried in nb_mdc824 maciifx)
Fatal error: Required files are missing, the machine cannot be run.

I have not tried MAME Mac emulation or this binary or zip file.

Googling 3410868.bin finds this result https://github.com/BatoceraPLUS/Batocer ... mdc824.zip

I think you can keep the file zipped and MAME will still accept it? In Safari.app, you can hold the option key and click "View raw" to download the zip without automatically decompressing it.

Thanks for pointing out the Batocera site. It also had the adbmodem.zip file that I needed to emulate a Quadra. MAME with the macqd650 does load and play the Carmen World 1.4 version that I have. A minor quibble is that the icon was incorrect when I loaded my floppy image. Oh well that is a detail that can probably be addressed and not really a concern to me at the moment. I can also say that with MAME the window scroll bars work as they should.

The main problem is now I do not have any sound! Cannot even play the system alerts. I start mame with the -verbose option so I can see that my hardware is being identified correctly. I do appreciate the willingness to answer some mame questions on the Basilisk forum but I probably need to figure out where to get some help on the mame sites.

MAME is covered in the "68k Mac Emulation" -> "Mini vMac and Other Mac Emulators" sub-forum.
