Sheepshaver -> USB -> Serial Port -> Opcode OMS ?
Trying to use Sheepshaver in Windows XP to run mac OS9 to run Opcode OMS to access midi devices over a RS-422 serial port. I got as far as OS9. Tried a Keyspan USA-28XG USB to RS-422 adapter. Tried installing Freemidi first. Keyspan fails so far, Freemidi runs, OMS crashes. Anybody ever manage to do this? (The Opcode Studio 5LX midi interface is a fantastic machine, but it is programmed with OS9 software and it has RS-422 ports.) http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2008/07 ... -5-lx.html
OMS in SheepShaver
This is exactly what I've been attempting to do in SheepShaver/XP-sp2 since discovering it a week ago.
I can run some audio programs, such as SoundEdit 16, flawlessly. Others, such as those requiring OMS and/or ASIO support (Deck, ProTools Free, SonicWORX) crash in all sorts of ways. OMS will install, but crashes if opened. DAE crashes if opened.
But SheepShaver is so unbelievably solid otherwise, I believe there must be some sort work around to be discovered. I'm going to keep working on it, although I have little knowledge of how the SoundManager, OMS, or DAE is tied to hardware.

Dear Cat_7 or any other Mac Emulation guru,
With my BasiliskII or the SheepShaver I have manage to see my USB flash drives and work with them, but I can't repeat it always...
I have use the USB drives as Floppy disk drives in Basilisk and with Control-Shift-F11 sometimes I see the my flash USB drives with the icon of a Floppy disk.
The trick is to put a CD that can't be read by BasiliskII or SheepShaver and force them to show the dialog which prompts to initialize the drive, after that both applications are showing the USB drives.
But not always!
Can someone please do something about it?

Re: Sheepshaver -> USB -> Serial Port -> Opcode OMS ?
Too bad this is a dead issue. I wish USB devices and therefore MIDI would work with Sheepshaver. I have some cool old MIDI apps with specialized data and some SysEx synth banks that I would like to run.
I would say the emulation would be just about perfect if this issue were fixed. Any clever coders out there?

Re: Sheepshaver -> USB -> Serial Port -> Opcode OMS ?
Nice to see some activity on this subject. I would also like to use OS9 midi in/out very much.
So far I have been able to setup OMS 2.3.8 and QT4 to work with midi instruments within OS9. So, I can use simple sequencing DAW (with older VSTs) and audio programs "all in the machine". It would be great to be able to communicate with my old synth, as I could in Classic.
I'm even able to use Nostalgia 0.65 Atari ST emulator with Master Tracks Pro sequencer to trigger the OS9 QT4 instruments in the same way!
But, I cannot access the OSX Core Audio and connected USB midi interface with an external synth.
Although it would not be a "strict" emulation, I wonder if it is possible for Sheepshaver to add a link with Core Audio in the same way as other OSX music applications?

Re: Sheepshaver -> USB -> Serial Port -> Opcode OMS ?
Another hungry sheep here. I should add that some older MIDI apps can only run using the Apple MIDI manager driver/routing app which connected applications to serial ports via an ahead of it's time UI showing cables between MIDI software and physical ports. It would be tres-useful if CoreMIDI on OSX could be accessed by Sheepsaver and shown to OS9 as a serial port... Users of the Yamaha VL1 expert editor and VL1 visual editor would be eternally thankful.
