FYI:

System761 all OK.

But 'Mac OS 9' launches with a crash report.
Did download again, but still crashing.
However, I can start with options button pressed. Changing options and continue will crash App again.
I prevent from posting the crash report details. - Too much spam, let me know if someone needs the report.

I couldn't do anything with the report, so there's no need to post it. There's probably no way anyone will be able to help. But there's at least a small chance that someone may have an idea if you report which macOS version you are using and whether you have an Intel or M1 machine.

 I keep the crash report safely on my disk until someone yells for it.

I'll try the OS9 download again on a MBpro late 13 (Intel) with Catalina 10.15.7 .
The initial machine, which failed launching the standalone app, was latest Intel MBP running Big Sur.

My servers are all ARM, but I don't have Apple Silicon ready for testing.
Maybe someone with a M1 could help. -

I'm running my Mac OS 9 app on an Apple Silicon MacBook Air under Ventura, with no trouble at all. I've tested it with a clean user account. I can't imagine why it's failing on your system, unfortunately.

Solved it, the download got corrupted and on the other machine, I could experience Sheepshaver finally stand-alone!

I did just notice, that web access and AppleTalk don't work.
I couldn't find my Apple Shares or SE30 nor iCab did show any content.

A couple of years ago, I did work with Kanjatalk on a version with AppleTalk support.
I need this, as I have all my files and programs on my LAN. So disk space is usually not a problem.

If someone is interested rising his own AppleShare, just yell here or drop me a personal message and I might be able to help. -
The price tag is below ~50$s and the fun tag is blasting.

An Apple Mac just starts to live with external bytes.

Have you looked at Ivan's github project?
https://github.com/RasppleII/a2server/tree/ivanx-1.5.x
it's a modern version of a2server, aimed at running on Raspbian or Debian, but much lighter weight than spinning up https://www.macip.net/macipgg-vm-3-0/ .

AppleTalk and WiFi don't get along well. http://www.applefool.com/se30 may be of help.

Uoops! - I just took an older Debian and installed atalk.
But Apple Networking needs to be enabled, when Kernel gets compiled.

That's it. - You are right, the VM from MacIP would be too heavy.

Thanks for the link!
If I find time, I'll check the bytes to see if there is something new to explore.

AppleTalk and WiFi: Yes, all good on MacBook Pro until late 2013.
Thereafter all my MacBooks and the Late 2013 Mac Pro just work via ETH port.
In addition my old TimeCapsule might be also of advantage, as they did still support all necessary protocol layers.

Still, it is worth the hassle, as I am proud to have my e.g. CompuServe mails from 1992 on my AppleShare. - Just mad, I'cant respond to these mails anymore.
The CIM <connect> button doesn't work anymore. Sigh!

Since you mentioned the Time Capsule... did you know that it's running NetBSD? There's a project over at https://github.com/ipatch/theairportwiki that helps you gain root and set up a compile chain so that you can have bare metal control of the system AND add new tools / reconfigure existing functions.

And I've updated the standalone macOS setup for System7.6.1 to allow PDF-creation etc. under Sonoma. Same download page, mainly about a standalone Mac OS 9 version:

http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/macos9osx.html

And if your browser gives you a 404 error, that's because it changed http:// to https:// Change it back to http://
