Hello everyone !

I have a problem with the installation of Mac OS 7.5.3 in French version which I found here. When I start Basilisk I get this message:

I don't understand why because with SheepShaver the installation goes very well why ?!

This 7.5.3 version is for PPC Macs. SheepShaver emulates a PPC Mac while BasiliskII emulates a 68k Mac. The 7.5.3 for 68k Mac installation was provided on 19 floppy disks.

You run BasiliskII on Linux? Our BasiliskII for Linux setup guide is not up to date for installing System 7.5.3 and contains dead links. The BasiliskII for OSX setup guide provides information about how to get this installation done and about the files to use (English version).
See setup guides in our wiki (link near the top of this page).

Hello, thank you for your response :)

1. I don't understand because I tried this version here in English & it works with Basilisk why ?
2. On the French version there is a small logo compatible with 68k + PPC CPUs (see photo) is this not a hybrid version for both systems ? If not, why did you put this little logo ?

That icon was put there by the WinWorldPC site, not this emaculation.com site. You should ask at WinWorldPC why they used that icon. No one here was involved in any way. This is the page with that icon:

That specific disk image works only with specific Power Macintosh models. You will need a generic French 7.5.3 installation. There is no possible way to install from that specific disk image to an emulator.

The name of the disk image is:

CD Macintosh Apple - Power Macintosh séries 7200-7500-7600-8200-8500-9500.iso

That means it will only work on those Power Mac models, not on anything else.

I'm asking the question again because it's still not clear to me... why the English version 7.5.3 on CD installs without problem but not the French version. They both have the little 68k + PPC logo I don’t understand ?

This English 7.5.3 CD here does indeed work in BasiliskII. (I did not know that a 7.5.3 installation CD for 68k existed.)

The French installation CD referred to earlier in this topic does not work on 68k Macs. The 68k icon is incorrectly placed there. I do not know if a general French version for 68k ever existed on CD.

As I wrote above, the 7.5.3 for 68k Macs installer was mainly distributed on 19 floppy disks. It could be downloaded from Apple, but Apple removed those downloads years ago. We saved the English 19 part installer in our wiki.

Because the English CD that you have is NOT limited to the PowerBook models that the French installation CD is limited to. You need to find a French CD that is not linked to specific PowerBook models. Such a CD may not actually exist.

You should search on macintoshgarden.org or macintoshrepository.org. Probably no one here knows anything about it.

Updating Mac OS to a different language or adding a language is not possible.

I doubt that a French 7.5.3 installation CD for 68k Macs ever existed. A 19 part French installer on floppy disks will have existed. Apple posted only the English version of the 19 part installer as a free download and removed that download later.

There is a ready installed 68k French 7.5.3 System on a disk image that works in BasiliskII here:
https://www.macintoshrepository.org/244 ... emulators-
You need registration with Macintosh Repository to be able to download it.

Edit: Apple posted various language versions, also the French version, of the 19 part 7.5.3 installer as free download, but removed the downloads years ago from its servers. Searching for "Installation de la version française 7.5.3", I found old web pages with links to those downloads that now refer to pages that do not exist anymore.

Search for Mac OS Anthology on Macintosh Garden. It should have most languages for most Mac system software versions.
I don't know if they had 68K support for all the system versions that can run on a 68K Mac.

The other place to look is the developer CDs. They had more international point versions available than the anthology CDs did.
